Eid al-Adha Observance

Due to a recent lunar sighting, the observance of Eid al-Adha has shifted and will now begin at sundown on Thursday, June 5, and continue through Friday, June 6 — one day earlier than originally anticipated.

FCPS has made the following adjustments to the standard school year calendar to accommodate this change and support our staff and students.

  • Thursday, June 5, will be an evening-only observance day.
  • Friday, June 6, will be an observance day.

We are working to support our students and staff who observe Eid al-Adha, while recognizing that there are important events and activities including graduations, that we are not able to shift at this late date.

Typically during observance days, activities such as quizzes, tests, field trips, or FCPS-scheduled athletic contests would not occur. However, due to the late date change, activities that cannot be rescheduled will continue as planned. Students observing the holiday will be provided an alternate day after the holiday to make up any missed work.

Due to the likely number of transportation staff celebrating this holiday, there may be some bus delays on Friday, June 6. Families can use the Bus Delay Notification System or use the Here Comes the Bus App to receive the bus delay information if needed.

✅ End-of-Year Reminders

The school year ends one week from today! Please see some important reminders below:

  2. Check your child’s MySchoolBucks account and pay any balances.

  4. Bookmark the 2025-26 school year calendar to be ready for next year.

Please contact your child’s school with any questions.

🩹 Required Immunizations for Rising 7th and 12th Graders

There are several immunizations required for students entering 7th and 12th grades.

  • All students entering 7th grade are required to receive one dose of each of the following immunizations before the beginning of school: Tetanus, Diphtheria, and Pertussis booster (Tdap), Meningococcal vaccine (MenACWY), and Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine.
    • To meet the Tdap requirement, the vaccination must be administered at age seven or older.
    • To meet the MenACWY requirement, the vaccination must be administered at age 10 or older.
    • As a parent/guardian, you may decide not to have your child receive the HPV vaccination. If that is the case, the school does not require documentation.
  • All students entering 12th grade are to receive one dose of Meningococcal vaccine (MenACWY) before the beginning of school.
    • To meet the MenACWY 12th grade requirement, the vaccination must be administered at age 16 or older.

Please consider getting your child’s immunizations early so that they can attend school in the fall. Summer is a busy time for families and health care providers. As long as your child meets the age requirements listed above, they can be immunized at any time. Local immunization clinics and additional resources are available on the FCPS Immunization Resources webpage and from the Fairfax County Health Department.
