Annandale Community Insider - April 6

Shawn and senior parents

Annandale Students, Families, and Community,

This week we kicked off end of year celebrations with our Senior Breakfast. Members of the Class of 2025 gathered in the auditorium to learn about important events leading up to graduation. Here is a link to the information they received. After the presentation, seniors had an opportunity to enjoy breakfast with their peers. A huge thank you to our senior parents, and Chick-fil-A Annandale for sponsoring the event.

On Tuesday, we will hold a special screening of a powerful documentary by Annandale alum Jacqueline Lundquist (Class of 1982), which explores her father’s Vietnam War experience through his letters and tapes. The film, created with fellow AHS graduates Jude Pago and Andre Jones, shares a moving story of connection and reconciliation. An in-school screening will be held from 9:50-11:15am, followed by a public showing at 6:00pm, with a PTSA-hosted social at 5:15pm. We hope you will join us!

As we enter this final stretch of the school year, our focus continues to be on providing high-quality instruction and targeted support through PRIDE Time and ASAP. To further prepare students for upcoming SOL and IB assessments, we will offer Super Saturdays - dedicated review sessions designed to reinforce key content and boost confidence. The schedule includes April 26 for Reading, Algebra 2, Geometry, IB Business, and IB Environmental Science; May 3 for Algebra 1 and IB Geography; and May 10 for Biology, Chemistry, and IB Math. Due to Spring Break, Geosystems students will participate in an in-school blitz instead of a Saturday session. Be on the lookout for an invitation. We appreciate your support in encouraging students to take advantage of these valuable opportunities.

Finally, this week is National Assistant Principal’s week. Our team of Assistant Principals do an incredible job every day supporting our students, families, and staff. They serve as instructional leaders, collaborate to ensure every student is receiving the support they need, and keep our school a safe place. A huge thank you to our Assistant Principals Kara Franklin-Taylor, Donna Higgins, Hanna Langstein, Jae Lee, Jeniva Miller, and Aaron Schneider.

Have a great week, Atom Nation. As always, reach out with any questions.

Shawn DeRose, Principal
