Atoms Athletics Recap
Baseball played two pivotal district games this week vs Justice and Lewis. Game one pitted the Atoms in a rematched vs Justice who beat the Atoms opening day 9-5. However, this game was a different story as the Atoms ran all over the Wolves and came home with a 12-1 win! Game two was a second road game at Lewis. The Atoms scored early and often as they pulled away from the Lancers to get their second win of the week. The Atoms take on Emmanuel Christian at 1:00pm.
Softball went 1-1 in their two games this week. Tuesday was a road game at Justice. The fans were treated to a lot of runs as both teams combined for over 30 runs but saw the Atoms come out victorious to move to 4-1 in the district! The second game saw a talented Oakton team come to Annandale Wednesday evening. The Cougars put it on the Atoms to hold them to a shutout and take the non-district win. Up next is a road game at TJ Tuesday.
Boys Lacrosse took on two tough district opponents this week. Game one was a match up with Hayfield. The Atoms played a hard fought game and kept the Hawks on their toes early but eventually, the Hawks took off and put the Atoms away. Second game was a short trip to Justice. The game was a mirror image of the Hawks game as the Atoms battled the Wolves early but were unable to hold it as the Wolves put a few more in the goal to send the Atoms back with a loss. Next up is a matchup with Lewis Tuesday.
Girls Lacrosse drove over to Hayfield Tuesday for a showdown with the Hawks. The Atoms played their best game of the season and gave the Hawks everything they could handle but fell short on the scoreboard. Next up was a matchup with perennial district power Justice. Unfortunately for the Atoms, the Wolves were firing on all cylinders as they put up goal after goal to go back to Justice with an impressive district win. The Atoms have senior night Tuesday evening vs Lewis.
Boys Soccer played their first district game of the season as they welcome Hayfield to Annandale Friday evening. The Atoms scored early in the first half to take a 1-0 lead before Hayfield scored on a beautiful header just before the half to knot the score at 1. The second half was a defensive battle resulting in OT. The first OT went by without a goal. It looked to be heading towards a tie before a rocket from 25 yards out by Marcus Cortes gave the Atoms a 2-1 district win! Next up is a pivotal game vs rival Falls Church Thursday.
Girls Soccer took a bus ride to Alexandria Friday evening for a match up with Hayfield. The Atoms scored in the first half and played great defense to lead 1-0 at the break. The second half was a bend don't break defensive style for the Atoms as they kept the Hawks off the scoreboard and added a second goal to come home with a 2-0 district win. The Atoms welcome the Jaguars to Annandale Thursday evening.
Boys Tennis faced region powerhouse TJ Wednesday evening and TJ proved why they look poised to contend for another regional title as they took care of business vs the Atoms. A quick turnaround welcome Edison to Annandale Thursday. The Atoms played much better on this afternoon as they battled the Eagles in each match but did not come out victorious as a team. The Atoms take on Mt. Vernon Tuesday afternoon.
Girls Tennis welcomed TJ to campus Wednesday and this TJ team made quick work of the Atoms as they too look to be ready to compete at the region level and possibly state. The Atoms traveled to Edison Thursday and played hard against the Eagles. Unfortunately, the 3-6 result wasn't what the Atoms wanted but they get a chance to get a victory as they travel to Mt. Vernon Tuesday.
Outdoor Track had their third meet of the season at Justice. The Atoms continue to improve with several athletes achieving personal best including qualifying for the district meet in May. The Atoms have their final meet before spring break Wednesday at Lewis.

Atoms Boosters Concession Stand Help
Attention Parents! Volunteers are needed to sell concessions at games throughout the year. We welcome any and all parents to volunteer but when parents of a particular sport work a game, a portion of concessions sales directly benefit that team. If you are not able to help directly at home games, there are many ways you can get involved with the Atoms Athletics Boosters by attending our monthly meetings or being a team liaison. Thank you for your support for Atom’s Athletics!
