Dear Haycock Families,
Congratulations to all our 6th grade students who went to the District National History Day event on Saturday, and to all those who are now going to the state competition at the end of April. Congratulations also to all our spellers who participated in our annual Spelling Bee last week, and kudos to our winner, Eliza Shah Mohammed, grade 5.
Please remember there is no school tomorrow because of the presidential primary. Haycock is a polling location. It is a school planning day for teachers.

Today, we welcomed our interim assistant principal, Cathleen Barry. She will be with us for the next five or six weeks as we work through the interviewing and hiring process for a new assistant principal. Welcome Ms. Barry!

Kindergarten Orientation
It's that time of year again! We are currently registering rising Kindergarten students for the 24-25 school year. We will hold an in-person Kindergarten Orientation for rising Kindergarten students and their parents on Wednesday, March 20 from 2:30-3:30.

March Author Visit
Author Erica Perl will be visiting our school on Friday March 15th! 📚 Students will learn about the creative process and the work of being an author. Erica has written more than 40 popular and critically-acclaimed books for children and teens. A former criminal defense attorney and ice cream truck driver (though not at the same time!), she now lives in Washington, DC.

Family Engagement Survey
Take the FCPS Family Engagement Survey!
Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) needs to hear from every parent and guardian in the school division’s 2024 Family Engagement Survey. The survey asks for thoughts on school communications and relationships, opportunities to participate, student success, and more. All responses are confidential.
There are three ways to participate:
- Check your email for an invitation. A link was sent on March 3rd. Use the drop down menu to select “Haycock Elementary School”
- Paper survey: Ask the front office staff or our new Family Liaison, Paulette Farmakides for a paper survey. You can complete it right there on the spot.
- Complete the FCPS online survey.
The survey is offered in English, Spanish, Arabic, Chinese, Farsi, Korean, Urdu, Vietnamese, and Amharic and is available between March 3rd until March 22nd.
2023-24 Haycock Yearbook Ordering
It’s time to pre-order your 2023-24 yearbook! To pre-order your 2023-24 Haycock Elementary School yearbook, go to www.yearbookforever.com, search for “Haycock,” click “Shop the store,” and select “2023-2024.” We accept credit card, debit card, or PayPal. You can also submit your photos from school field trips or school events via the email above.
