Woodson Cat B Goes to Cox Farms

Woodson Cat B students and staff end the 1st quarter with a field trip to Cox Farms.

NEW News

1. Message from Mr. Greata

I cannot think of a better way to end the 1st quarter, then for students to explore available career paths and meet amazing, successful professionals from all walks of life.  Today was our Portrait of a Graduate Career Day.  We had over 50 speakers join us to discuss their careers with our students, representing professionals from both the public and private sectors.

A big Thank YOU to all our speakers and to Paula Disalvo and Katherine Stransky for organizing this event. In addition to their leadership, we had over 60 staff members that helped plan the event and all staff members supported today.

Several of our speakers were both active duty military personnel and parents, reminding me of the strong connection we have with our military families. I am pleased to announce that Woodson has been designated a Purple Star School for actively supporting our military-connected families. It is an honor to serve those that sacrifice so much for us and we look forward to a long partnership.

Congratulations to our Volleyball team on winning the district title this past Monday - the match point was out of this world. Our Girls Cross Country team continues to collect trophies as they took home the regional title yesterday for the first time in school history! With winter sports starting next week, Woodson still has a lot of Fall postseason athletics to look forward to!

Before we start the long weekend for students, there is some housekeeping to address.  We still need roughly 1,250 families to complete the impact aid form. Completing the form is easy, as it is now available online through ParentVue. Thank you for helping us reach our goal of 100% completion!

We hope to see you at our last home football game tonight vs West Springfield at 7 pm. It's senior night for football, cheer and dance!  #OneWoodson

Have a great weekend,

Mr. Greata
Acting Principal

6. Purple Star Schools

The Purple Star designation is awarded to military-friendly schools that have demonstrated their commitment to meeting the needs of military-connected students and their families. See the full list of schools.

To qualify for a Purple Star, schools must have a staff member designated as the point of contact for military students and families. Schools must also demonstrate their commitment to meeting the needs of military students by engaging in professional learning and providing resources and programming on issues important to military families. Each Purple Star School must also have an active peer-led transition team, such as Student Ambassadors, to welcome new military-connected students and support their transition and connection to their new school community.

Woodson High School continues to be recognized as a Purple Star School!

On Friday, November 10th, Woodson will be holding a Veteran's Day Coffee and Donut Breakfast for Woodson military connected students and families (both active duty and reserve). The breakfast will take place 7am-8am in the College and Career Center. For questions, please email Chris Rosebrock, Social Studies teacher/Operation Patriot club sponsor (crosebrock@fcps.edu) or Adrienne Wood, School Counselor/Ambassadors club sponsor (acwood@fcps.edu).
