NEW News
Morning sunrise over Woodson today. Have a great weekend, everyone!
1. Message from Mr. Greata
Where can you see a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, Madonna, an apple, and various ghosts and ghouls line dance? Answer- at our annual Buddies Halloween party! This incredible event was planned by our Buddies Club and partnership class.
Our partnership class, an elective composed of students accessing the general education and adapted curriculum, hosted a Halloween party that included line dancing, pumpkin crafts, and a costume contest (Congrats, Aaron Roethlisberger for taking home the win with his Minecraft Creeper costume!). I want to thank Aki Goto, Maria Lopez, Emily Bankson, Chia Camphor, Rebecca Stroud and Kwabena Kwabiah for coordinating and supporting this great event.
During this season of competitions and performances, we are so proud of our marching band who stepped up to compete in a more competitive circuit last weekend at the University of Maryland. They took fourth overall, which is an amazing accomplishment. We are also extremely proud of all our choral groups in the Woodson pyramid, who gave a fabulous performance at our pyramid choral concert this past week!
Yesterday was a huge day for athletics. Our field hockey team won their quarter-final regional game and will be moving on to the semifinals next Tuesday, October 31st. A little earlier in the afternoon, at the Cross Country District Championship, our boys team took third overall, and our girls cross country team is running down a dream after winning first place. Congratulations to all of our student athletes!
We're so grateful to our PTSO for their recent generosity in supplying a tremendous amount of funding to teachers who applied for grants for additional materials and opportunities for their students. If you have not joined the PTSO I would highly encourage you to do so and registration can be found here. Every membership provides additional funding that goes directly to helping students. I want to share that we will now be linking the PTSO newsletter at the top of the Woodson Weekly and you can subscribe to receive it on Tuesdays by clicking this link.
I hope you all have a wonderful and peaceful weekend,
Mr. Greata Acting Principal WoodsonConnect@fcps.edu

6. Kiss and Ride and Parking Reminders
With the first quarter coming to a close, we wanted to remind students and parents about our parking and Kiss and Ride procedures. Please read the following procedures indicated by the map below:
1 - Bus and staff entrance: This is the first entrance off Whitacre Road into the Woodson property.
2 - Senior parking lot: The second entrance off Whitacre Road into the Senior lot is for Senior student parking only.
3 - Whitacre Road Kiss and Ride: The third entrance off Whitacre Road is the entrance to the Kiss and Ride loop by the tennis courts. Drop off students BEFORE 8AM at Door 9, not before (only in front of) Door 9 for safety reasons.
4 - Junior parking lot: The last entrance off Whitacre Road, which is also the stadium entrance. When looking at the stadium, the Junior lot is on the left.
5 - Pickett Road Kiss and Ride: If you are coming to Woodson from 236, use the Pickett Road entrance, NOT Whitacre Rd. This will allow you to drop your child(ren) off at Door 2. Only staff can access the front lot where Kiss and Ride forms from Whitacre Road.
DO NOT park at the shopping center across the street; they will tow your car
Friday, November 3rd, is our 2nd Annual POG Career Day. Our goal is to help students make connections between the POG skills we are asking them to develop and what those skills look like in different careers. This year we have speakers from a variety of trades and professions. We have some speakers returning and many new volunteers. Thank you to those of you who have volunteered to speak.
We will have an adjusted bell schedule Nov. 3:
1st Period: 8:10-8:25 Advisory: 8:30-9:10 Session 1: 9:20-10:10 Session 2: 10:20-11:10 Session 3 & Reflections: 11:20-12:25 Grab and Go Lunch: 12:30
For the last two weeks students have been signing up for sessions of interest. All students will be attending three sessions with our guest speakers and completing their 1st Quarter POG skills reflection in advisory. Please ask your child about the skill they have chosen and what steps they are taking to build that skill. More information on POG skills is available here
