THIS WEEK AT MADISON
WEEK OF 10/23/23
IMPORTANT INFO & EVENTS
Dear Madison Families,
The following communication is not the result of something specific that has happened at Madison. It is an effort to proactively support our communities during challenging times.
The recent violence in the Middle East has been devastating to watch, both on the news and on our social media feeds. It has also had a deep impact on our community, as many of our students have family members who have been affected by the violence. Madison is a place of diversity, and we celebrate the beauty of the cultures and traditions that our students bring from all over the world. However, when violence occurs in other parts of the world, it feels very personal to our community. Our schools must be safe spaces for all students. This is why we are committed to denouncing all acts of antisemitism, Islamophobia, and hatred in any form. We will not tolerate such acts in our school. Instead, we must hold on to our shared values of empathy, compassion, and respect for all people. We understand that students need to be able to share their thoughts and feelings about what is happening in the world, and how it is impacting their lives. Madison staff are committed to creating a school where all students feel safe and belong, and where every student's identity is valued. Madison’s mental health professionals are prepared to respond in support of any student who needs it.
Sincerely,
Liz Calvert, Principal

One School | One Community | One World
Madison High School strives to create and maintain an identity affirming learning environment where our students embrace, support, and encourage each other where multiple forms of identity (i.e. race, national origin, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, religion, or disability) are recognized and regarded as assets for teaching and learning. We work to ensure school is a place where students feel safe and can be themselves. We do not tolerate hate speech, racist speech, bias, or acts of discrimination in our school. We want all students to feel a sense of belonging. We want to see all students thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. We are committed to learning, growing, and building the best Madison High School for all our students. We are One School - One Community - One World.
