NEW News
Calvin, the Cavalier, has been returned! Woodson students had this week to figure out which Woodson staff member kidnapped him. Thank you, Mr. Clark, for participating in our "Clue" Theme for Homecoming!
1. Message from Mr. Greata
Dear Woodson Community,
We have been on pins and needles all week, wondering where our beloved Calvin was and who was responsible for taking him. Our fierce search for clues finally paid off today when Calvin was found by Officer Grabo, who was also able to arrest the culprit, Woodson teacher Mr. Clark!
It has been so much fun to see all of the great spirit wear this week and to see our students go all out with their excellent homecoming theme. We were so proud of our students that planned today’s pep rally and of our entire student body for their excellent participation. Congratulations to our Homecoming Court, who we look forward to seeing take center stage at tomorrow night's dance.
While we are so disappointed that our parade has been canceled, given all of the hard work by our students and sponsors, the pig out and the game are still a go!
Woodson High School received two major national and state academic recognitions this week. US News and World Report listed their list of top Virginia schools and Woodson is ranked 10th in the state. In addition, College Board has recognized Woodson High School as a Platinum school, due to the high percentage of students taking an AP course and the number of students that receive a score of 3 or higher on their exams. College Board also awarded Woodson an AP Access Award. This special award is given to schools whose percentage of underrepresented and/or low income students accessing our AP program is the same as, or greater than the percentage in the school’s graduating class! Here is a list of all FCPS schools that earned a distinction. Go CAVS!
And now that Calvin is safely back with the calvary, and we can breathe a collective sigh of relief, let’s celebrate at our pig out and football game tonight!
See you soon,
Mr. Greata Acting Principal WoodsonConnect@fcps.edu

It’s college application season! Woodson Counselors are busy completing secondary reports, submitting transcripts and writing recommendation letters as we support the Class of 2024 on their journey to college. We’re excited for our seniors and are happy to partner with them as they manage all facets of their applications. No appointment is needed for drop-in assistance at Senior Support sessions every Wednesday in the Career Center before school. It is critical that seniors plan ahead and are mindful of the strict 15-day deadline for transcript and letter requests so we can process our documents in time for their intended college deadlines. In addition to the Senior Padlet resources and support sessions, we are offering college application assistance next week in the Career Center on Tuesday, 10/24 during all lunches. No appointment is needed.
Student Services hosted a successful trip to Alcanza College Fair at George Mason! It was a huge success with students meeting college reps from over 100 schools and universities.
Lastly, we are closing in on the end of the quarter-November 3rd. Since schedule changes ended on 9/22, we encourage students who need academic support in specific classes to make arrangements with their teachers and consider using Tutor.com and other resources listed on the Academic Support padlet. Families concerned about a class may contact their child’s teacher directly to discuss, collaborate, and evaluate the best next step for academic improvement.
Parents will be unable to access grades in SIS from November 3rd through November 14th.
Friday, November 3rd, is our 2nd Annual POG Career Day. Our goal is to help students make connections between the POG skills we are asking them to develop and what those skills look like in different careers. This year we have speakers from a variety of trades and professions. We have some speakers returning and many new volunteers. Thank you to those of you who have volunteered to speak.
We will have an adjusted bell schedule Nov. 3:
1st Period: 8:10-8:25 Advisory: 8:30-9:10 Session 1: 9:20-10:10 Session 2: 10:20-11:10 Session 3 & Reflections: 11:20-12:25 Grab and Go Lunch: 12:30
For the last two weeks students have been signing up for sessions of interest. Students may still sign up through midnight October 20th using the google form here. Students must be logged in using their FCPS google account to access the form.
All students will be attending three sessions with our guest speakers and completing their 1st Quarter POG skills reflection in advisory. Please ask your child about the skill they have chosen and what steps they are taking to build that skill. More information on POG skills is available here
We look forward to a great day Nov. 3!
