Good Afternoon Westgate Families,
I hope this finds you well and having a fantastic week. It is hard to believe that we are already nearing the end of September and that Westgate's annual Fallfest is just two weeks away, on October 13! Please see below for details on how you can volunteer, buy tickets and food in advance, and participate in the PTA's first ever 50/50 raffle. Also, starting Monday, October 2, we will be collecting bags of candy at Door 1. This candy will be used during the evening of Fallfest and your donations are critical to it's success! We are so excited and look forward to seeing many of our families at Fallfest soon!

Charleston Wrap Fundraiser
Support our fundraiser by spreading the word with at least 10 friends & family! TEXT, email and share on social media using the handy tools available online! Fall Fest - October 13th
Fallfest is Back! Mark your calendars for October 13th and prepare for an evening filled with exciting games, fantastic prizes, and delightful trick-or-treating. The festival will take place on the baseball turf field behind Westgate, kicking off at 6 PM and concluding around 7:15 PM. Following the carnival, grab your blankets and settle in for an outdoor movie. Don't forget to don your favorite costumes – they're highly encouraged!
Secure your pre-purchased wristbands for just $15, or get them for $20 on the day of the event. TICKETS are available for purchase now – and PTA Members will get an extra special wristband.(All children ages 5-15 need a wristband for the event). And if you want to make dinner easy, pre-order your PIZZA now.
Also there are lots of ways to get involved for Fallfest and we need your help to make this day a success!

Fallfest Raffle
Introducing Westgate’s Inaugural 50/50 Raffle. By making a donation, you’ll not only have the opportunity to win half the prize pool but also contribute directly to PTA sponsored initiatives like helping with transportation costs for field trips, teacher reimbursements, and community events. Take your chance today by donating HERE and you might be our lucky! The raffle is open now, and the winner will be announced at FallFest before the movie starts (although you do not need to present to win).
Candy NEEDED
One of our students' all-time favorite activities at Fallfest is the Trick or Treat area, where our teachers have a blast handing out candy to our kiddos. But we need your help! We're in need of a generous supply of candy to ensure this event is a smashing success. If you'd like to contribute, please consider donating a bag or two of your favorite candy. Starting Monday, October 2, you can send it with your student or drop it off at Door 1 in the red bin specially marked for candy donations. Remember, the bigger the bag, the better! 🎃🍭
Your sweet contributions will help create lasting memories for our students and make Fallfest an unforgettable experience. Thank you for your support in making this event magical!
Restaurant Night - Chipotle - October 3rd
On Tuesday, October 3rd from 4-8pm grab a taco, burrito or your favorite from Chipotle in Vienna (8461 Leesburg Pike Vienna, VA) for dinner in support of Westgate's PTA. If ordering online or on the website use code: KVV9YGY or if ordering in person don't forget to mention Westgate PTA! 33% of qualifying purchases will be donated to Westgate's PTA.
Permission to Use Digital Resources
Some FCPS-approved digital resources require parent/caregiver consent before they can be used by students. Find the list of resources which require consent on the Digital Resources - Parent Consent page. This page also includes directions for providing permission using your SIS ParentVUE account. Each digital resource used in FCPS has had an instructional and technical review. Information about the educational technology tools approved for use within FCPS can be found in the online Digital Ecosystem Library.

2023 Student Rights and Responsibilities
FCPS’ Student Rights and Responsibilities document (SR&R) explains expectations for student behavior and adult responses to enhance school safety and to create a fair, equitable, and supportive school environment. In late June, the School Board approved changes to the SR&R for the 2023-24 school year. Updates include a revision of dress code expectations, bystander expectations for students witnessing harmful or unsafe behaviors, bullying, and substance abuse responses. Read Superintendent Dr. Michelle Reid’s letter to families regarding the SR&R.
Parents/caregivers should talk to their child(ren) about expectations for this school year. Also, please log in to SIS ParentVUE and sign to acknowledge your review of the SR&R, or sign and return the signature sheet to your child’s school by Friday, September 29.

SIS ParentVue
Access your student’s attendance records, grades, and assignments at any time with SIS ParentVUE. Caregivers should receive an activation code when they register their child.
Once you have activated a ParentVUE account for an FCPS student, you will keep the same account until the student graduates. Information about students in the same family can be accessed through the same ParentVUE account. Access SIS ParentVUE by using an app on your iPhone, iPad, or Android devices.

Free & Reduced Meal Applications
🍎 Free and Reduced-Price Meal Applications Available
According to the Centers for Disease Control, eating breakfast at school is associated with better attendance rates, fewer missed school days, and better test scores. Students who qualify for free and reduced-price meals receive breakfast and lunch at school at no cost.
Families in FCPS that are earning less than 185% of the poverty level can receive meals for their students at no cost. Families should complete the application before the start of each school year. Approved applications may also qualify students for additional benefits.

Zones of Regulation
This year we are excited to have implemented the program, Zones of Regulation at Westgate school wide. This program teaches students how to name their emotions and build strategies to help manage them. Emotions are categorized by blue, green, yellow, and red and each color represents a state of alertness. The green zone is the calmest and a place where we are ready to learn. Free, On-Demand, Online Tutoring
Does your child need homework help or feedback on their writing? How about a practice quiz to get ready for a test? FCPS students who’ve used Tutor.com have provided positive feedback:

Unless they’ve been opted out, students can access Tutor.com through Schoology. Every session is personalized to meet students’ needs from remedial to advanced levels. Sessions focus on conceptual learning and critical thinking—not quick answers.
