To commemorate the signing of the Constitution on September 17, 1787, students are celebrating Constitution Day! This date is also known as Citizenship Day: to recognize all who, by coming of age or by naturalization, have become citizens. Here are some of the resources available in our school library.
Thank you for attending our Back to School Nights, this week! We were so pleased to see such a large turnout, and we know that your presence meant a lot to our school staff! We believe that a strong partnership between parents and schools is essential for student success. We know you are all invested in your children’s education, and we are committed to working with you to make sure they have a successful school year. Thanks again for your support. We look forward to our continued work this school year!

Lees Corner's Cub Scout Pack 1601 is gearing up for another year of fun and adventure for both boys and girls in grades K-5. Save the date and find out more at our family information session at the LCES Cafeteria on Tuesday, Sept. 19 at 7pm. For more info email join@pack1601.org
Lees Corner is starting a crayon recycling program! Families can send in their used, broken, or unwanted crayons which will be collected in the labelled boxes in each pod. The crayons will be melted down and remanufactured, reducing environmental waste. For any questions, contact Jennifer Wagner at jjwagner@fcps.edu. Thank you for your support!
We are excited to have so many students bike to school! We are asking for your support with ensuring that once students reach a sidewalk area, they are walking their bikes to and from the bike rack. During arrival and dismissal, there are many pedestrians also accessing these sidewalk areas. We want to ensure the safety of everyone. Thanks for your support.
Fall Picture Day is coming on Wednesday, September 27. Individual pictures will be taken of each student for the yearbook.
You may order online at www.mylifetouch.com using the picture day ID EVTH4NC7F or with the order form that will be sent home with students.
Retakes will be on the morning of Tuesday, November 14.
Please see attached flyer and order form for more information.
We are excited to invite you and your child(ren) to our run/walk program, Fun Fit Fridays (or F3). Students in all grade levels, K-6, are welcome to participate, as well as parents and teachers!
Students, parents, and teachers are encouraged to meet on the Lees Corner track to run/walk laps on Friday mornings from 8:10-8:35 AM beginning on Friday, September 22 and running through Friday, November 17. If a student is not running/walking in the program, he or she should not arrive at school earlier than 8:35 AM
Fun Fit Fridays is a token reward program. Each student-participant is issued a running card to keep track of his or her laps and total miles over the course of the year. Students run/walk as many laps as possible in the 25-minute time period every Friday morning. After a student completes one lap around the track, an adult marks the student’s card. Each completed running card totals 30 laps, or 5 miles. Students receive a toe token upon completion of 5 miles. After 25, 50, 75, and 100 miles, students receive a number token representing the miles completed.
This is an excellent opportunity for your children to meet new friends, enjoy the benefits of running/walking, and develop an appreciation for fitness. We hope this program builds self-confidence and improves fitness levels among our students and within the community. Everyone is welcome to join us!
If your child will participate in F3, please fill out this form and return it to your child's teacher by Wednesday, September 20.
We are TJ Investigative Science Outreach, a student-led organization at Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology. We will be hosting our 11th annual science fair on March 16, 2024 and we would like to invite 5th-8th grade students from your school to participate. Admission to the science fair is completely free.
Participants will complete a research project of their choice and present at the fair in-person on March 16, 2024. We help students prepare for this fair by holding multiple sessions to teach them important skills in STEM like brainstorming, collecting data, presenting, writing an experiment summary, using statistics, creating an experimental diagram, etc.
Our first interest/brainstorming session is Friday October 6th, 2023 at 6:00 pm. We will be holding this session in-person at TJHSST. During this session we will go over the goals and guidelines of this fair and introduce students to a multitude of project ideas. All interested students should sign up using the form at the link: https://forms.gle/RMfQYuvACK3YajRw8
If you have any questions or concerns, please email us back. Feel free to also check out our website at tjsciencefair.wordpress.com or email us at tjhsstsciencefair@gmail.com.
Sincerely,
TJ Investigative Science Outreach

Attending school regularly helps students feel better about school—and themselves. Start building this habit in preschool so they learn right away that going to school on time, every day is important.
Watch this important video on the importance of being in school on time every day.
Student Attendance
Teachers take attendance at 8:50 a.m. so your child should in their classroom and ready for school by that time. If your child will be late or absent, please use our online attendance form found here or send an email to LeesCornerESAttendance@fcps.edu by 8:50 AM. Automated phone calls and emails are sent to anyone whose child’s absence is unverified at 10:15 in the morning.
These are the attendance codes that are being used and their explanations:
Excused Absence/Tardy
Excused Absence - student illness; death in family; court appearance; temporary student or family hardship
Excused Tardy - student was not present at the start of the school day when attendance was taken, but had a valid reason for being late such as doctor or dental appointment
Unexcused Absences/Tardy
Unexcused Absence - student shopping with parent; student and family away for vacation, student participating in other non-school activity during school hours.
Unexcused Tardy - Student was not present at the start of the school day for an unacceptable reason. Examples: overslept, running late, missed bus.
Early Dismissals/Changes in Dismissals
Please use the same attendance form found here for early dismissals and changes in dismissals. This form lets the office know; in case the teacher is not in the building.
Our first meeting of the year will be on Tuesday, Sept 26, 2023. We will present our budget and members will vote on our new PTA Vice President.
All meetings will be streamed on ZOOM and links will be sent out the day before via email and posted on this Facebook page.
Remember, you don't need to join the PTA to attend the meetings, everyone is welcome, but joining the PTA helps support all our activities for our teacher, our kids, and our school.
You can join the PTA here: https://leescornerpta.memberhub.com/
What are the membership levels?
A PLEDGE membership ($100 for families with 2 children or more, $75 for one child) allows the PTA to fund all the activities that support our teachers and our kids WITHOUT selling wrapping paper or using a 3rd party fundraising company. Pledge memberships come with perks including: Free admission to Hallowingo, 5 free raffle tickets for Hallowingo, discounts on selected after school activities, and coming back this year - the school wide directory!
We understand not everyone can support a Pledge membership, so we have a STANDARD membership ($20) because we want everyone to join the PTA. Joining the PTA gives you voting rights for the election of officers.
TEACHER and STAFF memberships are for our teachers and admin staff at LCES. The $10 fee covers the state and local PTA membership dues.
Hallowingo is coming up! Pledge your PTA membership now to enjoy the perks!
Lees Corner families! We are bringing back a school wide directory by popular demand. In order to be listed in the directory, you must OPT-IN. Please fill out the OPT IN/OPT OUT form here: https://shorturl.at/kmBCZ
Please respond by October 31, 2023
