Dear Stenwood Families,
We are so proud of the progress our Stingers have made so far this year! Looking back to when they arrived in August until now, we are so impressed by your children.
The time has already come for us to start planning for next year! We have sent home the intention forms and we have Kindergarten Orientation coming up on March 2nd. If you have any neighbors that have children that turn 5 on or before September 30th, please let them know to reach out to Mrs. Hunt, snhunt@fcps.edu as soon as possible so we can ensure they have all the information they need.

SEL Screener Information and Parent Workshop
Parents in grades 3-6, soon you will be receiving your child’s SEL screener results in the mail. FCPS has created a webpage dedicated to helping parents understand the results of the SEL screener data, how to talk to your child about the screener data, and conversation starters/skill builders for each of the domains. Please take advantage of these resources.
Our Stenwood Mental Health Team will be offering a Parent Coffee on Tuesday, 1/31 at 8:30am on Zoom. During this time, the team will share about SEL (Social Emotional Learning), about the screener itself, talk about how to interpret results, and share some of the supports Stenwood has in place for students. Please use this link to access the session. This session will be recorded for anyone who is unable to attend.
Reminder about Cell Phone Use
In elementary school, Kindergarten-sixth grade student’s phones must be silenced and in backpacks for the duration of the school day. Watches that serve a dual purpose (e.g., smart watch) may be worn; however, phone features (e.g., texting, Internet, calls, etc.) are to be off during the school day. Students are prohibited from using phones, smart watches, tablets, and other mobile devices in restrooms, cafeteria, and recess unless there is a true emergency. The full SR&R can be accessed online at: https://www.fcps.edu/srr

Positivity Project: Wildcard Week
|
|
This week, teachers are going back and hitting lessons they may have missed or character strengths they feel their students really enjoyed discussing. Over the last six weeks, we have learned about Integrity, Love, Humility, Enthusiasm, Social Intelligence, and Love of Learning. The important thing to remember is that everyone has ALL 24 strengths within them, but some shine through more than others. |
"Character, not circumstance, makes the person.”
~Booker T. Washington
Questions you might enjoy talking about:
- When you think of character, what comes to mind?
- Do you think character is just ONE thing, or multiple things?
- Why do we need to continue educating ourselves about character?
