Attendance Awareness Month
When Should My Child Stay Home?
Whether students miss school because of illness or any other reason, missing school leads to learning loss.
Help your student succeed by encouraging them to miss as few days as possible. However, do make sure your student stays home if they are sick. So when should your child stay home? Visit our site for helpful ideas regarding absences and how to work with your child and your school.
If your child has a chronic illness, make sure to notify our Attendance Line: 703-913-3838, and contact Elizabeth Wahl (MTSS) so that assistance can be provided if needed. Keep an open line of communication with our school public health nurse, and call the school as soon as you know your child will be absent and tell school staff why and for how long.
Learn more about WSHS Attendance Policies HERE.
Cafeteria A La Carte Prices, 2022-2023
Parents should be advised that A La Carte items are now being charged to students, unless the student is eligible for free or reduced price meals.
During the pandemic, all cafeteria food and sundry items (condiments and supplies) were free. Now that the US Department of Agriculture pandemic program to provide no-cost meals to all public school students has ended, A La Carte items that were free during the pandemic are now being charged to students. You can view the full A La Carte price list HERE.
Entrance for Dropping Students Off
The Tuttle Road entrance to the school is for permit parking only. Faculty and staff as well as seniors with parking permits can use this entrance. Parents / guardians please use the Grigsby Drive entrance to drop off and pickup your child.
Parent / Guardian Reminders
Sign and Return the Student Rights & Responsibilities Booklet
FCPS’ updated Student Rights & Responsibility booklet is available online and in the ParentVue section of the Student Information System (SIS). The SR&R booklet explains expectations for student behavior, and adult responses to enhance school safety and to create a fair, equitable, and supportive school environment.
Each year, we ask parents to review, sign, and return the SR&R to their child’s school. In ParentVue, you may now download and digitally sign the SR&R. Every parent/caregiver with a ParentVUE account will see the SR&R upon login to ParentVUE until the SR&R acknowledgement has been completed.
Your name in the digital signature box must match the parent/caregiver’s first and last name in SIS exactly before the signature will be accepted. Please take a moment to log into ParentVue in your child’s SIS account to access the SR&R. Signatures are due by September 30.
Your name in the digital signature box must match the parent/guardian’s first and last name in SIS exactly before the signature will be accepted.
Please take a moment to log into ParentVue in your child’s SIS account to access the SR&R. Visit the SIS Parentvue Account Overview page for help logging in to your account. Signatures are due by September 30, 2022.
Please contact our Family Liaison or Main Office Staff if you are having difficulty accessing the booklet.
Parents Requested to Authorize Digital Resource Consent

FCPS is required to obtain parental permission for student use of software / applications for which FCPS does not have a confidentiality agreement. It is critical that parents respond to the request for parental permission so teachers can plan to use the best technology tools with students this school year. Students will have trouble accessing many Google-based applications used in the classroom (i.e. YouTube, EdPuzzle and more), due to their Parental Consent not being signed.
FCPS has developed a WEB FORM to collect the information necessary for parents to grant permission digitally.
The instructions for Digital Consent signing in SIS Parent Vue are available by clicking the image above.
Parents and families who do not have an ParentVue activation code, may request one from the school by filling out THIS FORM.
Parents can find more information about FCPS-approved digital resources on our Digital Resources at West Springfield High School webpage.
Free and Reduced-Price Meal Applications Due October 6
School nutrition programs have returned to paid, free, and reduced-price student meals with the use of the individual, student personal identification number (PIN).
