Dear Fairhill Families,

Let’s celebrate the little and big successes of last week before jumping into week number two!  Our teachers and staff masterfully guided our Tigers in practicing routines and procedures.  Getting these in place now will help maximize learning throughout the school year.

Speaking of routines and procedures - one of our priorities this year will be to focus on supporting strong school attendance. It is important for them to have consistent attendance.  Bedtime and morning routines help ensure they are getting to school and are not missing information, and it helps build strong foundational skills. Please read below for more on  the importance of good attendance.

Our classroom teachers have created informative newsletters to help you see and know what is going on at school and in the classroom. This information provides a great way for families to have conversations about school with your children.

 Take care,

Tim Stanley                   Courtney Korb

Interim Principal            Assistant Principal

September is Attendance Awareness Month

Attend Today, Achieve Tomorrow! The beginning of the school year is the best time to develop strong attendance habits! Students who attend school regularly are more likely to perform well in reading and math, develop strong social and emotional skills, and graduate from high school on time. Help prepare your child for future success. Visit FCPS’ Attendance web page for tips and strategies

Cafeteria, Food, and Treats

We look forward to a future date where parents may enjoy lunch with their student, but at this time we are not allowing visitors into the Cafeteria.

Fast food is also discouraged at Fairhill.  The cafeteria has nutritious food for all students.  In order to be equitable we will not accept fast food deliveries for your student.

Please only send non food birthday treats to celebrate with your student's class.  There are many food allergies in classrooms and sugary treats can be disruptive to learning.

Thank you for your cooperation as we look forward to a happy and health school year!

forms

FCPS Mandatory Yearly Forms

The following forms need to be completed and submitted to your student's school each year.  Most mandatory FCPS forms that need to be completed, including Opt-Out forms can  be found in SIS ParentVUE (see above) or by clicking the following links:

Opt-Out Forms

Family Life Education Opt-Out Forms

Student Rights and Responsibilities Form

Health Information Form

Emergency Care Form  weCare@school

Digital Resources Parent Consent Form

Parents that do not yet have SIS ParentVUE accounts can continue to use paper forms.  Paper copies of the Homeless Student Referral form and the Identification of Military Families will be sent home the first day of school.  If you need printed copies of any other forms, please contact the Main Office.  If you are returning forms electronically, please send them to ackane@fcps.edu.

Student Rights and Responsibilities (SR&R) Parent/Guardian

Required Signature

We are extremely happy to have your child in our school with us this year!

FCPS’ updated Student Rights & Responsibility booklet is now available online and in the ParentVue section of the Student Information System (SIS). The SR&R booklet explains expectations for student behavior, and adult responses to enhance school safety and to create a fair, equitable, and supportive school environment.

Each year, we ask parents to review, sign, and return the SR&R to their child’s school. In ParentVUE, you may now download and digitally sign the SR&R. Every parent/guardian with a ParentVUE account will see the SR&R upon login to ParentVUE until the SR&R acknowledgement has been completed.

Your name in the digital signature box must match the parent/guardian’s first and last name in SIS exactly before the signature will be accepted.

Please take a moment to log into ParentVue in your child’s SIS account to access the SR&R. Signatures are due by September 30, 2022.

Click here for a pdf copy that you can save and print or save and email to ackane@fcps.edu.

Please contact Fairhill's Main Office if you are having difficulty accessing the booklet.

Parents can Receive Text Messages from FCPS for Emergencies and Essential Information

Make sure your cell phone numbers are listed in the parent/guardian contact information section on the emergency care information form for each of your children. Parents and guardians can view and update emergency contact information online using weCare@school

Text messages will be sent in the event of emergencies, delays or school closings, if buses are running more than 30 minutes late, if your student missed the morning attendance deadline, and for other important reminders.

Standard message and data charges may apply for text messages depending on your cell phone service plan. More about text messages is available online.

Lightspeed Parent Report on Child’s Device Activity

FCPS has tools to help parents and guardians know more about their child’s activity on any FCPS device. These tools are provided by Lightspeed, our internet content filtering service, at no cost to families. You may sign up for a weekly Parent Report, which will provide a list of the top sites your child visited. If you want more detailed information, sign up for the Internet Use Parent portal and log-in anytime to see more detail about your child’s browsing and “pause” access to the internet during non-school hours. Find out more and sign up for these services on our website.
