Annandale Students, Parents and Community:

On Wednesday, we were proud to host the Annandale High School graduation ceremony on our stadium field. Check out photos from the ceremony taken by FCPS Photographer, Donnie Biggs.

Dr. Sarah Eqab, our keynote speaker and Assistant Principal, reminded our graduates that each of us carries stories that shape who we are and who we will become. She shared how proud we are of or students’ resilience, their advocacy for a more equitable world, and how they use their diverse backgrounds and experiences to shape and better our community. “You know where you come from,” Dr. Eqab said in English and Arabic, “and you make us lift our heads in pride, إنت اصيلين و إبترفعه الرأس"

I am continually amazed and impressed by the growth this class has experienced and the success they have achieved. I am confident that as they leave Annandale, they will continue to do great things. Thank you to our administrators, counselors, teachers, staff members, families, and community for their support of our graduates throughout their high school journey. For those who were not able to attend, check out some of the highlights on Twitter

This Monday through Thursday school will be in session from 8:10am to 11:25am. Breakfast and lunch will be served, but there will be no second chance breakfast. Students who eat breakfast at school should be sure to arrive on time. Each day there will be two 90-minute exam blocks, with a 15 minute break in between. The second exam will end at 11:25am, at which time students will be dismissed. There will be a grab and go lunch at the end of each day.

All exams will be finished by Thursday, June 9. Friday June 10, is a two-hour day, with students being dismissed at 10:10. Students who attend on this day should report directly to the cafeteria.

Finally, all students must turn in their FCPS-issued laptop before leaving for the summer. After the end of each exam block, students will have the opportunity to turn in their laptop and charger in the cafeteria.

Thank you for all of your support throughout the year and as always, please let me know if you have any questions.

Shawn DeRose, Principal

Important Information

Free and Reduced Lunch Meal Plan Returns for 2022-23 School Year: For the past two years, the federal government has provided no-cost meals to all public school students without the need to complete the annual Free and Reduced-Price Meal application. This benefit is expected to expire at the end of the year. Families must submit an application and be approved to be eligible for free and reduced price meals for the 2022-23 school year.

Eligible families are encouraged to submit the Free and Reduced-Price Meal application before the first day of the 2022-23 school year. The online application will be available later this summer and accessible via the FCPS homepage. Paper free and reduced-price meals applications are available to all households at school offices, school cafeterias, and other FCPS buildings or by contacting Food and Nutrition Services at 703-813-4800 or 703-813-4844. Also, it’s important that parents/guardians complete the Consent to Share form so that their course fees can be waived based upon their FNR status. This form is available here in different languages.

Students approved for Free and Reduced-Price Meals may qualify for additional benefits such as waived or reduced fees for instruments, uniforms, field trips, FCPS class fees, and Parktakes classes. No-cost summer meals will be served at all FCPS summer school locations this year. Please visit this website for updated information during the summer.

End of the Year Medication Pick-up 2021-2022: The school health room is reminding parents and guardians that all medication stored in the health room must be picked up no later than the student dismissal time on the last day of school, Friday, June 10 by 10:40 am. Medications left in the health room after that time will be discarded.

It is FCPS policy that medications must be picked up by the parent or guardian. Medication cannot be sent home with your student. However, with parent or guardian permission, a high school student may transport over-the-counter medications to and from the school health room. If you have any questions, please contact our school health room aide, Amy Weik at 703-642-4110 or aeweik@fcps.edu

Class of 2023 Meningococcal Vaccine Reminder: The Code of Virginia requires all students to be immunized against certain communicable diseases prior to entrance into one of its schools. All students in grade 12 are required to have been immunized with one dose of the Meningococcal Vaccine given at the age of 16 or older. Please review the immunization requirements here. Proof of immunization must be submitted to the school. These documents need to be returned prior to the start of the 2022-23 school year, preferably by July 1. For more information on this requirement, visit this FCPS website.

SOL Scores Available in SIS: If your student took SOL tests this spring, you can view their scores in SIS ParentVUE beginning June 8. Use a web browser to log into your SIS ParentVUE account. You will find spring SOL test performance levels and overall scores in the Test History section. You will also get an official score report in ParentVUE Documents by the end of July. Don't have a ParentVUE account? Create one today.

No Morning Attendance Calls: In order to accommodate the expanded student testing windows for SOLs and IB exams, morning attendance calls, texts, and e-mails will be suspended for all middle and high schools now through the last day of school, June 10. Evening attendance notification will continue as normally scheduled. If you have any questions regarding your students' attendance, please contact the AHS Attendance Office at 703-642-4151 or via email at AnnandaleHigh.Attendance@fcps.edu.

Academic Support

Tutor.com - Online Tutoring Services Summer 2022 Access: FCPS students will continue to have unlimited access to 24/7, on-demand, online tutoring support services through Tutor.com during the summer of 2022. Details about how students can access Tutor.com via archived courses in Schoology are provided in Summer Access at Tutor.com - Online Tutoring Services.  In addition, students are able to use Tutor.com during the summer to review and/or practice in subject areas of interest or need. Students may also choose to access other tools/services such as practice quizzes in a variety of subject areas, as well as self-paced study courses for SAT/ACT preparation. Students can log into Schoology from any device with internet access to get to the Tutor.com site!

Summer Assignments: All FCPS middle school and high schools will not give summer assignments. Instead, schools have the option to recommend optional enrichment activities that are not for a grade. At Annandale, we highly encourage student selected texts/books to read over the summer.

Summer School (Credit Recovery Academy) Registration Now Open: The Credit Recovery Academy provides an opportunity for students to recover one high school course credit. Students may not take these courses for new course credit. Students will attend class in person. Transportation information will be communicated to families prior to the start of the program.
