2. Field Days are Back!

Olde Creek families!  The return of a beloved tradition is here!  Field Day is back and will take place on Tuesday, May 31st for Grades 4 – 6 from 9:00 – 10:55am and Wednesday, June 1st for Grades K – 3 from 8:50 – 10:45am.  Please remember to send your child with comfortable shoes and clothes that day, as it will likely be hot.  It might also be a good idea to use sunscreen but please apply it in the morning before sending your child off to school.

Thank you to parents who have volunteered to assist on Field Day!  We are looking forward to some fun in the sun on our Field Days!

3. Health Reminders for Upcoming In-person Events

We recognize that we have seen an increase in COVID cases at Olde Creek, but we want to continue to host our end of year events safely. We need to partner together to follow FCPS and CDC guidelines to minimize the spread.

If you plan to attend any of the upcoming in-person events in our building, please follow the recommended guidelines:

  • If you are not feeling well, we ask that you please stay home and not attend. Please review our daily health screening questions prior to coming to Olde Creek.
  • Although mask wearing is optional, we strongly encourage all guests to wear a mask while inside of our school.
  • While seating is available for audience members, if you feel more comfortable standing up to distance yourself, you are welcome to do so.

4. Olde Creek Night of the Arts - June 2

Our doors will open at 6:00PM for our Night of the Arts to begin. Here is an outline of the performance schedule for the evening:

  • 6:00PM: We will highlight our talented Bears’ artwork throughout the hallways of Olde Creek.

Graduation

6. 6th Grade Promotion Ceremony

6th Grade Families! We will be holding our 6th grade promotion ceremony on Wednesday, June 8 at 9:30 a.m. at the front of our school in the bus loop.  The event will include the presentation of our academic and citizenship awards. We hope you are able to join us. When you arrive, please find a seat in the section for families.

Your students have achieved so much this school year and we are very proud of them.  We are excited to celebrate our 6th grade Bears and to wish them the very best as they leave Olde Creek and enter their next educational chapter and become middle school students. We look forward to seeing you on June 8!

Laptop

7. Student Laptop Collection

All Olde Creek student laptops and chargers will be collected at the end of the school year.

  • Students will turn in their laptops and chargers during school. Teachers are signing up for a collection time at which point student laptops and chargers will be returned.
  • Students attending ESY and Summer programs (SOAR, YS) will keep their laptop and charger to bring with them to their summer program.
  • If your student received a laptop sleeve this year, we will not be collecting the sleeve.  Students will not be issued another sleeve, so please keep the sleeve and continue to use it next school year.  This includes rising 7th graders.

If your laptop or charger is lost, please contact the office and we will send payment instructions. Laptops cost $481 and chargers cost $23. Any device not returned by Monday, June 13 will be considered lost and bills will be issued after that date.

8. Clinic Procedures for End of the Year

The school health room is reminding parents and guardians that all medication stored in the health room must be picked up no later than the student dismissal time on the last day of school (June 10th, dismissal at 1:15).  Medications left in the health room after that time will be discarded.  It is school policy that medications must be picked up by the parent or guardian.  Medication cannot be sent home with your student.

Medication authorization forms for next school year may be obtained from the school or online at https://www.fcps.edu/resources/student-safety-and-wellness/school-health-services.   A medication authorization form is required for any medication, prescription or over-the-counter, to be kept at school.  Please be sure medication orders are clear.  All information on the form must be completed.  Part I must be signed and dated by the parent or guardian.  Part II must be signed and dated by your physician.  Over-the-counter medication given for headache, muscle pain, orthodontic pain, or menstrual cramps and antibiotic or antiviral medication do not need a physician signature.  More detailed information is available on the back of the medication authorization form.

Over-the-counter medication must be in the original container and clearly labeled by the parent or guardian.  All prescription medication, including physician’s samples, must be labeled by the pharmacist or physician.  Please make sure that the label clearly states your student’s name, the name of the medication, the dosage of the medication, and the time interval for administration.

If your child will be enrolled in a summer program sponsored by Fairfax County Public Schools, your existing long-term medication authorization form(s) may be used for the summer program.  Please let the health room know if you would like a copy of the form(s).

Your cooperation will ensure that we can safely give your student his or her medication.  If you have any questions, please contact us.

17. Woodson’s Relay for Life - June 4

Relay for Life

Come out and have fun while supporting an important cause! Come to Woodson's Relay for Life!

Relay for Life is a club at WT Woodson HS that partners with the American Cancer Society, a non-profit organization, to raise money to fund cancer research and other ACS programs that help support cancer patients. More information about the club can be found on our club's website (accessible through FCPS email accounts). We spend the year fundraising and planning a large event that takes place at the Pat Cunningham stadium at WT Woodson High School on Saturday, June 4th from 12 pm to 12 am (anyone may come or leave at any time!) Here is our event website on the American Cancer Society

We plan to have live music, games, challenges, and of course, the luminaria ceremony to remember those we have lost to cancer. We think this is a great opportunity for students from our feeder schools and other members of the community to get involved with: to fundraise for a great cause, interact with students, experience Woodson's clubs, and just have fun!
