Bonnie Brae ES Updates November 19

Principals' Message

Happy Friday Bonnie Brae Community,

We wanted send a quick reminder that next week is a short week, and school is in session on Monday and Tuesday only. We hope that you have plans to spend time with family and friends, and we look forward to hearing stories from our students when we return. Because next week is a short week, we will also not be sending a community newsletter. We will resume the week of November 29th.

Wishing everyone a joyous and restful week ahead!

Sincerely,

Dwayne Young, Interim Principal

Elaine Woo, Assistant Principal

Scott Hawk, Assistant Principal

COVID Weekly Update

Every week, we will provide an update on our COVID-19 status to keep you informed. Parents interested in following the daily case reporting can refer to the COVID-19 Dashboard on the FCPS website. If you have any questions about how we are staying safe so we can keep learning in person, please contact the BBES office at 703-321-3900.

Bonnie Brae reports 0 positive COVID-19 cases this week.

Remember, do your part to keep our school safe: Wear your mask, get vaccinated if you are eligible, practice healthy hygiene, and stay home when you are sick.

Positivity Project

Positivity Project

We continue to work to empower students to build positive relationships through the Positivity Project. For the next two  week's leading up to Thanksgiving, the focus will be on  Gratitude.

You are aware of and thankful for good things that happen. “Be thankful for what you have.”

Following our Thanksgiving Break, our theme will be Kindness.

You are generous to others and you are never too busy to help out. You enjoy doing good deeds for other people. “In the sweetness of friendship, let there be laughter and sharing of pleasures.”

Thanksgiving Luncheon Update

Due to vendor and transportation issues, Food Services shared that schools will not be serving Thanksgiving lunch this year. Traditionally, this was also a community event where parents came in to support. However, due to safety protocols, this will not be happening this year.

Thanksgiving Cafeteria Decorations

Our wonderful PTO has decorated the cafeteria with a Thanksgiving theme. Students were able to enjoy the decorations today and into next week. Since teachers have assigned students in the cafeteria every other week, we hope that this will allow for most, if not all, of our students to enjoy. Thank you so much, Bonnie Brae PTO!

Chang

Welcome to Our New Family Liaison

Santanisha Chang is our new Family Liaison at BBE. She is an educator, academic advisor and child advocate with significant ties to the Northern Virginia area. Ms. Chang has worked for many years as a substitute teacher with Fairfax County Public Schools. This includes working with all students and families within diverse populations. She is sensitive to the many issues that parents, staff and families encounter and believe working together is our goal.

Saturday Enrichment Program through William & Mary University

William & Mary’s Center for Gifted Education is excited to share their Saturday Enrichment Program (SEP) with your family.  SEP is an academically challenging program with an emphasis on inquiry-based learning.  The program is not meant to replace the regular school curriculum; rather, it recognizes the importance of allowing able children to explore additional specialized areas of science, mathematics, humanities, and the arts.   There are spring virtual courses available in the areas of engineering, music, STEM, coding, writing, social science, and many more.  Visit the website or view the flyer for more information and to register
