Mosaic Matters - August 25, 2021

Mosaic mural

Wow, what a week! We’re thrilled to welcome 950 Mustangs back to school! Everyone is settling in and getting used to our new normal. I hope your children are coming home happy talking about their great teacher and excited about reconnecting with friends.  We now have two large tents where students each lunch each day in addition to the cafeteria. PE classes have been outside all week, and all classes are learning outside at times throughout the day. It would be more enjoyable if the temperature wasn’t 95 degrees, so we’re looking forward to cooler Fall weather soon! Several parents have asked about coming to the cafeteria to have lunch with their children. At this time, we aren’t allowing visitors at all to the classrooms or cafeteria. I hopeful we will be able to allow that in the Spring.

Thank you so much for your patience and support. We know these days continue to be challenging, stressful times for all of us. We’re committed to focusing on the positive and making Mosaic a place of joy.

Sincerely,

Mahri Aste, Ed. D.

New School Leadership

Two new Assistant Principals have joined our school leadership team. Dr. Jenny Smith comes to the position with a wealth of teaching and administrative experience in FCPS and several other school divisions in the US. Dr. Smith has also been a 6th grade teacher at Mosaic for the last three years. Mr. Michael King joins our team with a wealth of teaching and administrative experience in FCPS as a former math teacher at the middle school level and Assistant Principal at Clearview in Herndon. They have both done so much already to help our staff and students.

Welcome to Schoology

Schoology is our new learning management system (LMS). Teachers will use Schoology to post their classroom materials online; to provide a safe forum for students to discuss their ideas and collaborate on projects; and to assign and collect homework electronically. It helps students stay organized and it keeps the class connected.

Parent Accounts

A Schoology Parent Account gives you access to:

  • Your child’s classes.
  • Your child’s upcoming assignments.
  • School, class, and group announcements.

To access Schoology, parents will need to have an active SIS/ParentVUE account.

More information on how to login and use Schoology is available online.

Technology Ready

Students in K-6 have been assigned a computer. Teachers will be helping students reset their FCPS passwords and log onto their laptops.

What will your child do with their FCPS device?

  • PreK Families: The FCPS device issued to your child is meant to stay home for your child’s school-related use. You should not send the device to school with your child each day.
  • Kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd Grades: Students will be assigned a device that stays in school. If devices are needed for schoolwork or projects, or in the event of an extended absence or temporary closure, devices will be sent home with students so they can continue to participate in their classwork.
  • Grades 3-6: Students will be issued an FCPS device for school use. Your child will take their device home with them each day, and should come to school each day with their device fully charged. Please review the Student Device Guidelines with your child.

Students should tell their teacher if they have laptop troubles as soon as possible. The teacher will reach out to the Technology Team for support.

Families that do not have any internet access at home can request a MiFi by emailing their child's teacher.
