Grades 3-6 Spring SOL Testing
Across Virginia, students will be taking Standards of Learning (SOL) tests this spring. Information was sent out to families of 3rd through 6th graders on Monday, April 5. All SOL tests must be taken in-person at school. SOL tests are not available for remote delivery from home. If you do not wish for your student to take SOL tests at school this spring, you have the right to refuse testing. The Right to Refuse Assessments webpage (https://www.fcps.edu/node/34277) offers information and considerations as you make this decision.

In-person Presentation for Rising Kindergarteners
Save the Date! Virginia Run will be having an in-person presentation for rising Kindergarteners on Monday, May 17 from 2:00 - 3:00 pm. More information to follow. This will be a parent only presentation.

Registration packets for rising Kindergarteners will be mailed out by next week. You should receive your packet by the end of April.

Fully virtual students continue to have the option for curbside pickup for library books on alternating Mondays. The next pickup is Monday, April 26th between noon and 1:00 pm in the kiss and ride loop at the front entrance of the school building. Students who are in-person any part of the school week will have their books delivered to their classroom. Please return books when you pick up new ones. In-person students should return books in their classrooms.

New Art Kits are Ready for grades 3-6!
New dates and information!
Mrs. Adkins and Mrs. Tuben have assembled weaving kits for grades 3 and 4 and stitchery kits for grades 5 and 6. 6th grade only also has the option to get a clay kit to use at home by filling out a Google form found in their Google Classroom. Kits will begin to go home the week of April 26th with in-person students and students that take the SOL in person. There is a supply pick up scheduled for April 26th from 1-2 pm at VRES for virtual students that will not be in person for an SOL. Please mark your calendar and plan to come pick up supplies if you have an all virtual student in grades 3-6. Students will not need the fiber kits until the week of May 10th. Students in grades K-2 do not have any new supplies to pick up. For clay kits only, clay pieces need to be returned to the school the week of May 10-14 for firing and finished pieces will be available for pick up the last week of school. Students may paint the pieces at home with watercolor or acrylic paint. Fiber kits are for use during Art Class only and should not be opened until instructed to do so by the Art teacher. On Friday, April 30th, VRES is having our April spirit day – SPORTS DAY! Show your VRES spirit and wear a team shirt or Jersey of a sports team you play on or support. If you don’t have a favorite sports team, wear something you do like! Or maybe you do not like sports, but want to wear a shirt to represent your favorite hobby. – Sponsored by the VRES SCA
Virtual Career Day
Virginia Run is having a Virtual Career Day for our students. We are in search of professionals interested in creating a pre-recorded presentation, that is not to exceed 10 minutes describing their career and possibly showing your workplace. Videos will be uploaded to YouTube. We will be following up with you on more details. Please complete the survey below if you are interested.

These programs are an opportunity for you and your child to have a FREE AND FUN summer learning experience.

Hours: 9:40 - 1:40
Bus transportation will be provided.
Bridge to Kindergarten: An opportunity for your rising kindergartener to become familiar with the school environment.
Bridge to First: An opportunity for your rising first grader to support the move to first grade.
Summer SOAR: An opportunity for current 1st-6th graders to enhance their math and literacy skills.
