Happy Friday West Potomac!
One of the best things about West Potomac is that we are a true representation of our nation. All types of peoples with diverse backgrounds, mindsets, and experiences. Over this past year, we have had very trying and tragic events that have required taking a look at ourselves as a nation and as a school community. This week’s tragedy of a mass shooting and murders of women of Asian descent has again uniquely placed our community to come together and support our students and families who share a personal connection. As a community, we stand with one another and for one another especially when dealing with racial trauma. Our West Potomac Student Equity Coalition has posted several resources to their sites to provide a safe space for the voices of our Asian-American, Asians, and Pacific Islander students.
We would like to continue to provide resources during difficult times like these. The information below was shared by the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) and American School Counseling Association (ASCA):
From VDOE - The following resources are meant to support stakeholders in their efforts to condemn anti-Asian racism and address racial trauma:

Updates S-Rotation Attendance
S-rotation has shifted slightly since returning to in-person learning. In an effort to limit movement from classroom to classroom, no in-person students physically move to their S rotation class. Instead, students physically stay in their advisory class where attendance is taken. S rotation, moving forward, will function as office hours. Allowing student choice and teacher direction. If a teacher needs to see a student during their assigned S rotation they will let the student know ahead of time and will require them to either complete work and turn it in or ask them to log into their office hour link during S rotation. Otherwise, students can use the time to work with a different teacher or study independently. The only time a teacher will mark a student CUT is if the student did not complete work assigned or did not log into their S rotation teacher’s office hours as expected.
Take good care,
Ms. Millard
