West Potomac High School Weekly News

Happy Friday West Potomac,

I hope you all are doing well and plan to have a relaxing long weekend.  As we await a revised/updated timeline for Return to School (RTS), I wanted to keep you updated on West Potomac’s progress toward RTS.  Many faculty and staff have begun registration to receive the COVID-19 Vaccination.  This has been a welcomed and highly anticipated opportunity and we are thankful for the efforts of our school board, led by Karen Corbett Sanders, to have educators moved up in the state vaccination timeline.  We are also grateful to FCPS leadership for partnering with INOVA Fairfax on a quick turnaround plan to begin the vaccination process.  This process is helping West Potomac to alleviate our staffing challenges; however, we do still need to hire 6 more monitors.  We are continuing to interview and make offers daily.

Our capacity issues have been solved due to the hard work of our custodial staff and Mr(s). McMahon and Johnson systematically and methodically going through every instructional space meticulously moving around and moving out furniture to meet the 6 ft requirements.

We started our virtual intervention program for students needing additional support on Monday.  Dr. Brabrand will be presenting a revised RTS timeline to our school board and I am hopeful that we will begin to move forward with in-person intervention and ultimately, concurrent instruction.  I will provide more details on specifics for West Potomac RTS in a Town Hall presentation very soon.

Attached is a follow up community letter closing the student athlete case that I informed you of earlier in the week via eNotify.
