WINTER SPORTS UPDATES AND

PRACTICE SCHEDULES

Dear TJ Parents and Athletes,

The remaining winter sports (wrestling, track & field, swim & dive, and gymnastics) will start on Monday December 14, 2020. There is a very specific pre-activity screening protocol that must be followed. Please read carefully so that there can be a smooth start on Monday. Best of Luck to all Athletes this Winter Season!

Procedures

  • All students will need to complete their sport specific Google form EVERY DAY that there is a sport activity (practice or game). This form must be completed after 4pm but before they arrive to practice. (Entries before 4pm are deleted every day). Students can bookmark this link on their device. Coaches will also have a QR code if the student runs into issues.
  • Students MUST arrive in their car and STAY in their car until cleared by TJ Staff.
  • Students need to arrive at the designation screening location for their sport.
  • Student MUST wear a mask during the check-in process as well as throughout athletic participation (practices and games) for basketball and track & field. Gymnastics, wrestling, and swim & dive participants should be masked when not engaged in physical/contact activity.
  • Students with a temperature of and greater than 100.4 during the screening will be turned away from practice and cannot return until they are symptom free for 24 hours and have a note from a practitioner clearing them to return to athletic participation.
  • Students must be appropriately dressed for practice (indoors and outdoors). There will be no access to locker rooms.
  • Students need to have 32 oz of water.
  • Please keep students home with symptoms of any kind. Please keep students home if they have been exposed to COVID19.

Paperwork and Eligibility

  • Each student needs to have two items completed to be eligible to try-out. Valid VHSL physical on the February 2017 form dated May 1, 2020 or after. If the athlete still needs to turn in the their physical, they should bring it on their first day and give it to the athletic trainer (wrestling, gymnastics, track & field) and give it to their coach (swim & dive).
  • You must be signed up for your sport under the athletic registration and completed the concussion education and emergency care card.
  • To check your status, create/sign into your account on Athletic Registration https://tjhsst-ar.rschooltoday.com/. If your Incomplete Registration Tab is GRAY then you are COMPLETE. You should click on the IMPORTANT DATES and see your physical date there.
  • Coaches will have access to a compliance report with everyone that has completed all three items. Students that are not compliant will be sent to the athletic trainer to check eligibility. Students without required items will be sent home.
  • Once athletes make the team, they will need to complete the Parent/Guardian Health Screening Commitment Form in either SIS ParentVue or turn in the hard copy to the coach. Athletes will not be eligible for game participation until this form is completed.

Please read the following important message from the FCPS Office of Athletic and Activities Programs.

Welcome back to sports!  Our goal is to continue providing athletic opportunities for our students in the safest possible manner.  To that end, we ask for your help in a couple of critically important areas.

Please, do not send your child to practice or workouts if:

  • He/she complains of not feeling well and/or has any of the following:
    • Feeling feverish and/or having chills (if documented temperature/fever of 100.4F or greater)
    • A new cough not due to another health condition
    • Fatigue (more tired than usual)
    • Nasal congestion or runny nose
    • Headache
    • A new sore throat not due to another health condition
    • New chills not due to another health condition
    • New muscle pain not due to another health condition or that may have been caused by a specific activity such as physical exercise
    • New loss of taste or smell, new onset of poor appetite or poor feeding Abdominal pain, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting
  • He/she has been exposed to an individual who has tested positive for COVID-19 or displays signs or symptoms associated with COVID-19
  • He/she has been tested for COVID-19 and is awaiting results OR another family residing in the same house has been tested and is awaiting results

The Virginia Department of Health (VDH) recently recommended the following: “During times of substantial COVID-19 activity VDH strongly advises athletes to wear masks at all times during group training, competition, and on the sidelines.”

Beginning Friday, December 11, students participating in FCPS athletic programs, to include in-season practices and competitions as well as out-of-season workouts, are required to wear masks during all aspects of athletic participation in all sports with the exception of wrestling, gymnastics and swim and dive.

With everyone’s help, we look forward to a successful season!
