This Week at Frost - November 24, 2020

This Week in Review

HT

Greetings Frost Middle School Families,

I'm so thankful!

During this season, traditionally, it can be so easy to say these words but not truly understand the meaning or the gravity of this simple saying. I think we all understand the importance of being thankful for what, and for who, we have in our lives, given the events of the past year. I truly hope as we spend time with family and friends during this season of thanks, we are reflective and that we let our loved ones know how much they mean to us. I'm sure they'd love to hear it!

Take care of yourself.

Here's another statement that you often hear and sometimes say, without thinking much of it. But I want us all to be careful during this Thanksgiving break. I'm sure we have all heard the guidance to stay home and stay put during this holiday season. My family is planning to stay home in the Washington DC area for the first time in over 10 years.  If you are compelled to travel to visit family and friends, make sure you take proper precautions and follow social distancing protocols.

We look forward to hearing all of the wonderful stories of family, fun and football (for some of us) next Monday! After all, this is the season of thanks!

Take good care,

 Anthony

Music Department T-Shirt Pick-Up – December 7

On Monday December 7th, from 8-10 AM and 3-5 PM Choir, Band and Orchestra T-shirts will be available for pick up. This is for all new students to music classes at Frost as well as any 8th grade students who needed a new shirt.

Before arrival, please make up a sign that has the student’s name, teacher’s name and class period.  Upon arrival, please park along the curb in front of the cafeteria door, which is to the right of the front entrance (see map, attached below).  Once you park, proceed to the cafeteria door with your sign.  A teacher will bring the shirt outside to you.

Due to current COVID-19 restrictions, no one may enter the building and we can only serve one student at a time.  If you arrive and another person is waiting for their t-shirt, please remain in your car until they leave.  As you enter and leave the parking lot, please be aware of other cars in the parking lot.

As always, you must wear a mask when coming to the school.  Before arrival, please take the Health Survey and, if you answer “yes” to any of the questions, you must come back on another day.

Picture Day

The Frost MS Picture Day that was held on November 11 was a huge success.  We had 563 students come to Frost to have their school picture taken.  The students did a wonderful job following social distance rules!

The Picture Make-Up Day will be on Monday, January 11.  If you didn’t get a chance to come to the first picture day, please mark you calendars!  We will have more details as we get closer to the date.

Math Inventory

The Math Inventory is a universal screener and growth monitoring assessment that measures math growth on the Quantile Framework® for students in Grades K to 12 (Kindergarten through Algebra II or High School Integrated Math III).  All FCPS middle school students enrolled in the following courses will need to complete the test in November:

  • Math 7
  • Math 7 Honors
  • Pre-Algebra
  • Algebra and Algebra Honors

All math classes are giving students instruction on how to log-in and username/password information (as they did with the reading inventory in English earlier this year).  The majority of classes, with the exception of Algebra Honors, introduced the test this week by showing a short video and some students will have time to begin the test in class.  Completion will be assigned as an asynchronous activity due in November.  We have attached additional information (general instructions and accessing the test) in case students have additional questions while at home taking it independently.

Students Recognized by Teachers and Staff

Despite our virtual setting and physical distance, Frost teachers and staff still want to recognize the wonderful contributions our students are making to their classes. Monthly drawings will be made from the submitted names. Every student entered has a chance to win. We are ONEFrost! Keep up the great work – we appreciate every student!  https://frostms.fcps.edu/resources/students-being-recognized

Save the Date!  Family Life Education Program Preview – December 1

On Tuesday, December 1st at 7:00pm, the 7th and 8th grade Health and PE teachers will be holding a virtual meeting for parents to preview the Family Life Education Program.  This program, which is composed of the Emotional and Social health unit and the Human Growth and Development unit, tends to have sensitive topics.  Parents may choose to opt their children out of these lessons, either wholly or partially.   We strongly encourage parents to review the Middle School Family Life Education Program descriptions at this link:

The links for 7th and 8th grade presentations will be sent out on Monday, November 30.  If you have questions, please reach out to your student’s Health and Physical Education teacher.
