Dear Poplar Tree Families,

I hope everyone had a great week! This grey, cloudy weather is certainly getting “old”. Hopefully, we will have some sunny, summer like weather for Memorial Day weekend. I always look forward to this weekend as the start of summer. It certainly has a different feel this year than in past years, and I’m sure that we will all find ways to make it a fun weekend.

Yesterday, I sent a separate communication regarding student item/medication pick-up. I appreciate everyone’s flexibility and cooperation in following the outlined procedures for this item retrieval. I want to make sure that everyone is safe and remains healthy and these procedures will help ensure that.

Please remember that there are no live teaching sessions on Monday in observance of the federal holiday.

Have a wonderful weekend and stay safe!

Take care,

Sue Andujar, Principal

Virtual College Day

We are excited to announce that Poplar Tree will continue its annual tradition of College Day--with a twist! College Day will take place on Thursday, May 28. Here’s what’s on the agenda:

  • On May 28th, students and teachers are asked to wear their college gear or college colors--t-shirts, hats, whatever--for their virtual lessons that morning.
  • Take a photo and share on Twitter with the hashtags #ptescollegeday2020 and #amazingthingshappeneverywhere and tag us- @PoplarTreeES and @PTES_Counselors.
  • Students will explore colleges on our Virtual College Day 2020 Google site in their Google Classrooms or on our Distance Learning Site.

College Day wouldn’t be complete without a visit from our Poplar Tree graduates who are now Chantilly Seniors. Look for a special surprise in next week’s news--a Flip Grid featuring our Poplar Tree/Chantilly graduates!

BBCU Links Not Working?

We are aware that yesterday many links for our Blackboard Collaborate Ultra sessions were not working. We apologize for this and know that is it due to the way in which the links were originally bookmarked and updates that occur within the Chrome browser.

To successfully ensure the links are working, here are a few options:

  1. Always open up the link from the original "Invitee" email in the fcpsschools.net account. Consider starring the email for easy access! (If you can't find this original link, email Leslie Leisey at lfleisey@fcps.edu and she'll send you a new one!)
  2. Bookmark your links using the strategy shown in THESE WRITTEN DIRECTIONS or THIS VIDEO.
  3. Bookmark your email using the strategy shown in THIS VIDEO. (this might be better for our older students who have multiple teachers they meet with!)

Thank you for your continued flexibility during Distance Learning! And thanks to Zoe Rowley, 6th grade Paw Tech Squad member, for helping with our video resources!

parent input

Parents,

As we look ahead to the 2020-21 school year, we are asking for your input. We value our partnership between home and school and appreciate your thoughts on your child's learning needs.

If you feel that there is pertinent information to support your child’s success for the upcoming school year, please complete this Parent Input Form by Friday, May 29, 2020 to ensure it is used for end of the year class placements.

This system is not intended for families to request specific teachers. Requests for specific teachers will not be honored.

Class assignments are created by a team. Your child’s current teacher, specialists, and administrators collaborate to make well balanced classes where students can succeed. Poplar Tree embraces collective responsibility and all our staff are equipped to meet individual student needs. We will use this information as one piece for classroom placements.

Thank you in advance for your support,
Poplar Tree
