Hayfield Counselors Earns RAMP (Recognized ASCA Model Program) Program of Distinction Award!
In the press release from FCPS today, it was announced that Hayfield Secondary is among six schools nationwide that received the RAMP School of Distinction award by the American School Counselor Association (ASCA), an honor reserved for schools with exceptionally high-caliber school counseling programs based on rankings determined by a panel of RAMP reviewers. Huge congrats to the Hayfield HS Counseling team!
Third Quarter Grades:
Access in ParentVUE and StudentVUE to view the report card module is closed from Friday, May 1, at 4:00 p.m. until Saturday, May 9 at 6:00 a.m. Report cards will be mailed centrally from FCPS beginning May 19.

Seniors Celebrate Together: The class of 2020 has faced a senior year like none other in history. The XQ organization has partnered with The Lebron James Family Foundation and the Entertainment Industry Foundation to celebrate high school seniors throughout the country with a first-of-its-kind national graduation that will air simultaneously on network television, social media and streaming platforms on Saturday, May 16 at 8:00 p.m. EST. The event will feature LeBron James, Malala Yousafzai, the Jonas Brothers, Yara Shahidi, H.E.R., Megan Rapinoe, Bad Bunny, Lena Waithe, Pharrell Williams, Ben Platt and others. Former President Barack Obama will give the commencement address.
Here's how you and your students can participate:
--Share your stories about remote learning quirks, inspiring tales of educators going above and beyond, or anything else that you think needs to be told on Graduate Together’s website.
--Encourage your seniors to submit photos and short video segments that tell the stories of their achievements.
--Ask your seniors to submit photos for the first-ever National High School Yearbook in partnership with JR’s global Inside Out participatory photo project.

Opportunities from Northern Va Community College
Jump Start Update
Due to overwhelming community demand for NOVA’s new JumpStart classes, as well as further guidance received on how the CARES Act funding can be utilized, NOVA will need to limit the JumpStart program to the graduating class of 2020. All qualified juniors who applied on or before April 29, 2020 are still eligible to take their requested courses. The NOVA JumpStart page has been updated to reflect the changes.
Admissions & Registration Information Sessions for Senior Students
Admissions counselors will host info sessions for seniors to learn more about how to get started at NOVA. There will be time for questions. NOVA President Hosts Chat for Senior Parents
Join Dr. Anne Kress, President, as she speaks specifically to parents of the Class of 2020 about the opportunities available for graduating seniors at NOVA. Topics include next steps, financial aid and scholarships, labor market trends (jobs that are growing), transfer programs, and more. Class of 2020 Decision Day- June 1
Hayfield counselors, faculty and staff are excited to celebrate our senior class’ postsecondary plans on June 1. Seniors are encouraged to wear their college/ military t-shirt, or their new work uniform, and tweet a photo using the hashtags #HayfieldDecisionDay and #CelebrateYourPlan. Students may also print out a sign to hold in their photo- the fliers are here. Please tag @HawkCounseling so that we see your big announcement!
FCPS Senior Survey
FCPS requires every graduating senior to complete the Senior Survey, which asks questions about their postsecondary plans for Fall 2020. This mandatory survey also tells Hayfield where to send the final transcript, so it is very important to complete correctly and on time. Students should check their email for a message from Mrs. Ferguson with complete instructions. Students with last names A-Ki received this email on May 6. Students with last names Kj-Z will receive this email on May 8.
NACAC's College Openings
The National Association for College Admission Counseling has published their annual “College Openings Update”, which lists NACAC member colleges that are still accepting applications from prospective freshman and/or transfer students for fall 2020. It also provides information about still available financial aid and housing: https://www.nacacnet.org/news--publications/Research/CollegeOpenings/.
The list is continually updated through late summer. Both public and private colleges are included. The College Openings Update is now in its 33rd year.

Annual Student Loan Acknowledgement
- The new Annual Student Loan Acknowledgement tool can help new borrowers get a sense of what their loan balance, monthly payment, and expected salary could be based on the school they plan to attend and the program in which they'll be enrolled.
- If borrowers have existing loans, the tool outlines how much they owe and how much more they can borrow.
- If students have received grants, they will see how much they've received and how much eligibility they have left.
- Note: The Annual Student Loan Acknowledgment will not be required in order for borrowers to receive a disbursement until the 2021-22 award year.
Feedback Center
The new StudentAid.gov Feedback Center provides students and borrowers with an improved way to submit a complaint, report an issue, provide positive feedback, and manage their cases.
Loan Simulator
Students and borrowers can now simulate repayment options based on two additional types of goals—paying off their debt by a specific date or choosing a specific monthly payment amount.
Aidan ℠ Virtual Assistant
The option to interact with Aidan is expanding to more users over time to answer questions about federal student aid.”
