This element of the Other People Matter Mindset (OPM2) means that when I’m with other people, I’m present and give them my full attention.
A deliberate focus on being present is so important today due to the increasing number of distractions vying for our time and attention. Phone calls, text messages, emails, social media notifications all have the formidable capacity to pull us away from the present moment and what’s most important – our relationships with other people. How dangerous is this to our well-being and the fabric of our society? Very!
Just like plants need sunlight to grow, our relationships need attention. The research is crystal clear, relationships are the cornerstone of health, happiness, and resilience. And, if we don’t give our attention to the people we’re building relationships with – whether family members, close friends, or even distant colleagues – we can’t build those relationships.
On a group level, it’s vitally important that we pick our heads up from our cell phones and truly listen to other people when they’re talking. A positive culture is built with positive relationships – and we can’t build positive relationships without attention. So, the answer is clear: we need to pay attention to people in our lives. That’s going to be good for individuals, small groups, and large societies.

This year, we are excited to announce that we will hold a Read-a-thon fundraiser. Our Read-a-thon is a program that brings students together with family and friends to encourage reading and to build literacy skills. The main focus of the Read-a-thon is for everyone to know we are committed to improving reading skills. To that end, the Read-a-thon promises to be a fun, exciting journey for all participants as they begin a personal Reading Adventure that challenges each reader to complete 10 reading sessions over our 2-week event.
Our Read-a-thon will start April 8, 2019
Please see our attached flyer for more information. If you’d prefer to make a charitable donation there is an easy way to contribute to our Readathon Fundraiser at the link below.

One important aspect of Digital Citizenship work is teaching students how to use social media in a respectful and responsible manner. Students can be upstanders in the fight against cyber bullying and hurtful digital drama. The resources below are intended to support parents and guardians with this important work at home.
What are the basics my kid needs to know about social media?
When should I start talking to my kid about using social sites and apps responsibly?
