2021 VDOE Virtual Fine Arts Summer Institute
The Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) extends an invitation to administrators and teachers to attend the 2021 Virtual VDOE Fine Arts Summer Institute. The 2021 Institute sessions will be held virtually from June 29–August 5, 2021.
The 2021 Institute will provide opportunities for sharing effective teaching and learning practices that support the Profile of a Virginia Graduate through fine arts education. Key themes and goals of the Institute include:
- authentic applications of digital teaching and learning strategies for the arts;
- culturally responsive and inclusive fine arts instruction;
- addressing post-pandemic teaching and learning challenges and opportunities;
- inspiring creative thinking, communication, critical thinking, citizenship, and collaboration in fine arts instruction; and
- curriculum and instruction strategies that support the goals outlined in the 2020 Virginia Fine Arts Standards of Learning.
Many session presentations will be followed by an opportunity for educators to connect and collaborate with a Professional Learning Community (PLC) of their instructional peers. Many sessions will be recorded and posted for use by individuals and divisions for late summer to early fall professional learning plans for fine arts educators.
Certificates of professional learning hours will be issued to those who attend a live session and complete the exit survey. Educators and administrators will need to work with their local division to determine how professional learning hours will count towards recertification.
