DEQ is co-hosting the ninth Annual Stormwater and Plastic Pollution workshop to help stormwater and litter prevention professionals to prevent the spread of plastic pollution in Virginia’s waterways.
Due to overwhelming interest, DEQ and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineershave released an FAQdocument concerning the use ofpine plantationsfor compensatory mitigation. Compensatory mitigation isa credit system to help manage the restoration and creation of new wetlands in order to ensure no net wetlands loss in Virginia.
In our last newsletter, DEQ announcedthe completion of RiverRenew, an historic combined sewer overflow project in Alexandria. The project has already seen great success managing sewage in Northern Virginia.
DEQ’s Brownfields team is celebrating the completion of successful projects made possible by a $2 million grant award from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency from 2022.

Fast-track Regulatory Action- Small Renewable Energy Projects (Solar) Permit by Rule (9VAC15-60)- Amend the Small Renewable Energy Projects (Solar) Permit by Rule Regulation to correct errors in the definition of mitigation district - submit comments by Sept. 23.
Proposed amendments to Water Quality Standards (9VAC25-260) - Triennial Review 2024 Rulemaking to adopt new, update, or cancel existing water quality standards as required by § 62.1-44.15 of the Code of Virginia and the Federal Clean Water Act, 33 U.S.C. §§ 1251- submit comments by Sept. 11.
