Chesterfield’s first section of the Fall Line Trail is on the ground.
OK, so it’s only about 500 feet long, spanning one block along Route 1 between Dwight Avenue and Gettings Lane, but there’s another one-mile segment under construction further north that’s expected to be completed in November. The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) also is preparing to break ground this fall on the 9.4-mile section of trail between Route 10 in Chester and Patton Park in Petersburg.
In total, funding has been secured for all but about six of the more than 18 miles of trail that will traverse Chesterfield as it winds its way north from the banks of the Appomattox River to the town of Ashland.

Everyday Q&A: Hitting Innovation Out of the Park with Matt Mullen
For most people, sports are a hobby. For Matt Mullen, they’ve been a throughline.
The Richmond-area native grew up playing just about every sport including basketball, football, and baseball. When the time came, he packed up his bags and headed south to Roanoke College with dreams of seeing where Division III baseball could take him.
From VCU Athletics to the University of Richmond and local baseball teams, Mullen found roles exactly where he knew he wanted to be. Eventually, those experiences brough him back to local government. After six years with Henrico County, Mullen joined the Chesterfield family in 2023. Today, he serves as assistant director for sports and events in the Sports, Visitation and Entertainment department.

Adoptable Pet Spotlight

Hi There Short Legs, Don't Care!
Short Legs, Don't Care has an equally awesome personality to match his name! He is carefree, happy, and his excitement is contagious. He loves to play with toys with or without you. If you are busy, he will throw the toy up in the air and catch it. He's super silly and is a little bit clumsy due to his abnormally short legs for his body size. When meeting other dogs, he just wanted to play and have a party!
If you are interested in meeting this pet, please contact Chesterfield County Animal Services at 804-748-1683, option "2," to schedule an appointment. Office staff are available by phone 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Friday, and 7:30 a.m.-4 p.m. on Saturdays. Our shelter is located at 9300 Public Works Road.
