2025 Infographic

Arlington’s 2025 Vision Zero Mid-Year Report is live! The report gives a comprehensive overview of the progress we’ve made in the first half of 2025 toward action items outlined in the 2021 Five-Year Vision Zero Action Plan. The report includes recent crash data summaries, shares upcoming action, and highlights areas for improvement.

Review the report and bring your questions and comments to the Vision Zero External Stakeholder’s Group Meeting on Wednesday, October 7th (7-8:30PM).

Engagement Corner

Mark Your Calendar: We are updating our Vision Zero Action Plan, and want to hear from you!!

Throughout October, we are kicking off an effort to update our Five-Year Vision Zero Action Plan. We are hosting various events throughout the month, including an open house, virtual meeting, and various pop-up events across the County. We want to hear your insights, learn from your experiences, and define Arlington’s path to zero severe or fatal injuries by 2030.

Swing by an in-person event to chat with us and pick up some Vision Zero swag (could be a tote bag, t-shirt, car magnet, sticker, lawn sign, or snack). We look forward to seeing you!

Events:

We will also be at variety of food and supply distributions throughout the month to meet people during their daily activities.

Reminder: Share your feedback on Vision Zero Safety Pilot Projects by September 26th!

Downhill PBL

Share your feedback on Downhill Bike Lane & Right Turn Conflict by September 26th

This summer, we launched the Downhill Bike Lane & Right Turn Conflict Pilot Project to address potentially high-risk conflict points when a driver makes a right turn across a downhill-sloped bike lane.

The four pilot locations were chosen because they feature right hand turns across downhill bike lanes, three of which were identified during the High-Injury Network safety audit of Clarendon Blvd:

  • Clarendon Blvd & 17th St N
  • Clarendon Blvd & N Scott St
  • Clarendon Blvd & Driveways Across from N Troy St
  • Wilson Blvd & N Manchester St

View the project info sheet.

We are seeking feedback as we assess the impacts of and next steps for this pilot. Share your thoughts on the pilot by Sept 26 by answering these five questions.

Median closure

Share your feedback on Route 50/Arlington Blvd & Highland St Median Closure Pilot by September 26th

This spring, we installed pilot safety treatments in collaboration with the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) at the intersection of Route 50 & N/S Highland St using tactical in-street materials (signs, markings, flex posts).

The goal of the pilot is to reduce crash risks caused by uncontrolled left turn and through movements over multiple lanes of high-speed traffic on Route 50. A VDOT Arlington Blvd Safety Improvements Project will address unsignalized left turn and through movements along the corridor slated to begin in 2030. This pilot tests the feasibility of an interim safety solution using flex posts at the intersection of Route 50 and N/S Highland St.  Route 50 & Highland was selected for the pilot because it had the highest left turn/through crash rate for an unsignalized intersection along the Route 50 corridor.

We are seeking feedback as we assess the impacts of and next steps for this pilot. Share your thoughts on the Route 50/Highland St pilot by Sept 26 by answering these five questions.

The Columbia Pike Bike Boulevards parallel Columbia Pike along 8th Road S. and 9th Street S., North of Columbia Pike and 12th Street S., South of Columbia Pike. The Bike Boulevards are approximately 4.3 miles long and connect community members to nine Civic Associations, schools, businesses, parks, local and regional trails, and other destinations.

Updated 2024 Annual Crash Report and 2025 Action Spots Report

In August, we published the 2024 Annual Crash Report and a corresponding list of 2025 Action Spots. As we began analysis of the Action Spots, we discovered a minor calculation error. We have since revised the Annual Crash Report and Action Spot infosheet.

We also received feedback that the new combined format was confusing, so we separated the Annual Report content and Action Spot content to make sure this important safety data is easy to understand and use. Thanks for your patience as we finalized these two important data analyses!
