Arlington County is advancing Arlington’s Transportation Future, an initiative to create a refreshed transportation plan that will better address the community’s transportation needs; help create a safe, equitable, accessible, easy-to-use, and sustainable transportation network; and guide community investments in the years to come.
Are we on the right path for transportation? The County used community input to develop a draft vision and goals for the next transportation plan. Does the draft vision reflect your ideal future for Arlington? Do the draft goals include your priorities? Is there anything missing from the draft vision and goals? Join the conversation online or in-person to share your feedback!
Bus boarding islands (sometimes referred to as a “floating bus stops”) provide a dedicated waiting and boarding area for passengers and continuous separation for the protected bike lane on Clarendon Blvd. People using the bus stop will cross the bike lane and board the bus from the elevated bus platform.
This new configuration allows buses to remain in the travel lane while picking up/dropping off passengers, which enhances bus travel time and reduces merging. Additional benefits include narrowing the roadway, which helps to slow down through and turning vehicles. The project also involves raising the bike lane to a similar elevation as the floating bus stop platform.

Earlier this month, staff from across the Division of Transportation conducted a safety audit of Westbound Langston Blvd from N Westmoreland St to John Marshall Dr. This corridor was identified as part of Arlington's High Injury Network in 2023.
The findings and next steps from the road safety audit will be published on the Vision Zero website within about four months of the audit. Our next audit will be Clarendon Blvd in March. See below for the complete schedule for 2025.

Columbia Pike Road Construction- Crews are conducting sidewalk and asphalt reconstruction on Columbia Pike Segment D (between South Courthouse Road and South Garfield Street), and lanes and sidewalks are expected to reopen in spring of 2025. This closure will allow crews to construct the new storm sewer and begin curb & gutter and asphalt reconstruction. The 24/7 closures will allow the construction to be completed more quickly while keeping access to businesses from the sidewalk.
The Vision Zero team set up at the Arlington Food Assistance Center the morning of February 5th. The team handed out informational pamphlets on pedestrian safety in dark conditions and reflective hats to keep warm and safe during this winter season. Thank you to everyone who stopped to talk with us!
