Vision Zero Year 2 Mid-Year Report & Public Meeting

Arlington’s Year 2 Vision Zero Mid-Year Report is out! The report provides an overview of Arlington’s progress toward each of the action items from the Vision Zero Action Plan and highlights key accomplishments and things to come in Year 2 of our safety program.

Take a look and then bring your questions or suggestions to the Vision Zero Year 2 Mid-Year Progress Meeting on Tuesday, December 6 from 7 - 8:30 p.m. This is the annual meeting of the Vision Zero External Stakeholders group, and members of the public are encouraged to attend and participate in this virtual meeting.

Celebrate Safely this Holiday Season

CCM Alcohol

The holiday season is here – make plans to get home safely after celebrating. 1 in 5 fatal or severe crashes in Arlington involve alcohol. Drunk driving crashes are at least twice as likely to result in a serious outcome. Think before you drink and encourage others around you to do the same. Learn more about Arlington’s Vision Zero Critical Crash Campaign here.

Report Safety Concerns at Construction Sites Online

MOT Graphic

Ever wonder how we maintain safe crossing conditions during construction projects? Now you can play a part by reporting these safety concerns! In July 2022, staff updated the online request for service tool by adding the section “Blocked Sidewalk or Street,” to report issues with MOTs (alternative routes/temporary conditions during construction). Reporting these issues with the online tool helps the County to track compliance at active construction sites. Reports may be submitted when there are poor conditions for people walking, biking, scooting, accessing transit, or driving at the site of the construction project.

To-date members of the community have submitted 214 requests, which have experienced an average of 8 days to close. The ability to report MOT requests through the County’s general request for service tool has helped staff to track resident concerns, which will also support potential expansion of the limited Inspection Services team in the future.

Seven Safety Driven Capital Projects Substantially Complete

Since the Vision Zero Year 1 Annual Report was released in April 2022, the County has substantially completed seven safety-driven capital projects. Check out the project pages for more information or swing by to take a look at the improvements.
