NIST MEP System Update Meeting – Detroit

Time to get ready for the next System Update Meeting in Detroit, MI on September 14, 2016. The meeting will begin at 7:30am and wrap-up by 5:00pm.   Click here for event website. 

 

Where: Detroit Marriott at the Renaissance Center, 400 Renaissance Drive, Detroit, Michigan 48243.

 

Registration:  Registration for the meeting is coming soon, as early as this week. 

 

Hotel: A room block has been reserved at the Detroit Marriott at the Renaissance Center at a rate of $129 per night. To reserve your room book online or call (877) 901-6632. If calling the hotel, please be sure to reference the "MEP Update Meeting" group name in order to receive the discounted room rate.  The deadline is Sunday, August 21, 2016.  After that rooms will be available on a space and rate available basis.

MEP Advisory Board Welcomes New Member

Please join us in welcoming Mr. Jose Anaya as the newest MEP national Advisory Board member.  Mr. Anaya is the Dean of Community Advancement at El Camino College.  He oversees the Centers for Applied Competitive Technologies as the Statewide Initiative Director, hosted at El Camino College.   He also sits on the California Network for Manufacturing Innovation.   His employment in the private sector spans 17 years and includes notable advanced manufacturing firms such as Honeywell, ITT Industries and DataCard.  His areas of expertise are product design, manufacturing, management, and economic and workforce development.  Mr. Anaya has a B.S. degree in mechanical engineering from California Polytechnics University and an MBA from the University of Southern California. 


Emerging Leaders Program Nominations for Class 1.9 now open

What is the Emerging Leaders Program?

The Emerging Leaders Program (ELP) is an opportunity to provide candidates with informed, innovative ideas, best practices and recommendations that focus on the management and leadership strategies specifically related to MEP. At the end of this program candidates will have the ability to identify and draw on best practices from around the system, help develop creative new solutions to a Center’s own problems and be in a stronger position to help manage the center’s day-to-day operations. 

 

2-Day Workshop

As part of the Program, candidates will get together two times during the year for networking and interactive workshops. During these two-day workshops, participants will receive specialized leadership training in areas of strategic planning, system awareness, and program fundamentals. This workshop is required for both the incoming 1.9 and graduating 1.8 classes.

What’s Happening inside MEP

  • Nevada Industry Excellence, the Nevada MEP, recently published their impact report covering the 5 year period from 2010 to 2014. See report
  • MAGNET, an Ohio MEP Affiliate, just launched their first online business pitch competition, [M]SPIRE, with the goal of inspiring small manufacturers and entrepreneurs to take their idea to the next level. MAGNET will be giving out up to $100,000 in cash grants to product-focused businesses and would love to get at least 100 ideas submitted before the deadline of Friday, September 30th. August 9 & 11, 2016. NIST MEP Webinar: MEP New Employee Orientation Part 1& Part II

MEP presents an Orientation webinar series for those new and interested to learn about the MEP program and the MEP system.  The webinar will be a two-part series:

  

Part I provides a high-level synopsis of the MEP program, geared towards new members of the system and is highly recommended for those who recently joined the MEP center.  Part I is also recommended as a refresher for those who have been in the system and get an update of what’s new.  Part II will present a more in-depth look into the initiatives and strategy of the MEP program.

Lorain County Community College (Spritzer Conference Center); 1005 N. Abbe Rd., Elyria, OH 44035

This workshop is sponsored by CIFT and MAGNET on behalf of the Ohio MEP.  Federal laboratories offer unique capabilities that businesses can utilize to solve technical issues. Different types of research agreements are available based on the extent of assistance required. Each lab will define unique capabilities, how to engage with the resources and apply the technologies, and showcase a successful commercial application. Through 2016, the Department of Energy is providing up to $20 million vouchers so that small businesses can request technical assistance from national labs to help bring the next generation of clean technologies to market.

October 18-19,2016. The North Carolina MEP mfgCON 2016. North Carolina’s premier conference for manufacturing innovation, will take place in Greensboro, North Carolina October 18 and 19, 2016.  The event includes two full days of presentations and breakout sessions designed for maximum exposure to the newest ideas, and best tools and resources in manufacturing.

November 2, 2016. Join us for the 2016 South Carolina Lean Alliance annual event with speaker Jamie Flinchbaugh. He will be discussing, ‘Building your Lean Leadership Operating System.’ This workshop will help you explore key leadership beliefs and practices that are effective to engage in a lean transformation, and how to build a system of work around those practices to improve your chances of success.
