When TBI Biomarkers May Not Indicate TBI
Biomarker is something of a buzzword in TBI research these days, with promising discoveries about how clues in the blood are linked to changes in the brain. Research suggests that TBI is one factor that can cause changes in serum levels of GFAP and UCH-L1, the two biomarkers closest to TBI clinical application in the military. But are there other explanations for these changes?
Find out with the latest episode of Clinical Updates in Brain Injury Science Today, or CUBIST, a podcast for health care providers about current TBI research. Hosts Amanda Gano and Don Marion interview Dr. Jeffrey Bazarian, principal investigator of a recent study published in the Journal of Neurotrauma titled “Effects of physical exertion on early changes in blood-based brain biomarkers: implications for the acute point of care diagnosis of concussion.”
