As a very non-traditional and often-challenging 2020 wraps up, the Environmental Technologies Team wishes all of our clients a happy and healthy upcoming holiday season! This month, we are highlighting opportunities for U.S. companies to engage with the Asian Development Bank (ADB), announcing our plans to engage at WasteExpo 2021, and highlighting several December webinars of interest. We are actively mapping out our 2021 events and strategy, but always welcome your input on events or markets of particular interest to you. We continue to provide the latest information on our Industry Webpage, and we encourage you to reach out to a trade specialist at your local U.S. Export Assistance Center to discuss your export objectives. If you have any questions about any of these opportunities, please contact the Team Member listed for each project or you can contact Ryan.Russell@trade.gov to connect you with the right point of contact.

The Asian Development Bank (ADB), a multilateral development bank focused on economic growth and cooperation in Asia, offers U.S. technology and service providers excellent export opportunities across its 50 recipient economies. ADB is at the vanguard of sustainable infrastructure and is actively supporting their developing member countries to enact regulatory changes and technologies promoting a shift to environmentally sustainable, low-carbon, and climate resilient infrastructure while reducing potential negative impacts of their projects. Sound environmental management and safeguards are integral to ADB’s sustainable development and poverty reduction efforts across the Indo Pacific region and the Bank is actively seeking the involvement of US industries in such efforts, including in such areas as waste-to-energy, solid waste management, and water/wastewater treatment.
Relatedly, the ADB is now seeking industry inputs to update their Energy Policy. The current 2009 ADB Energy Policy (responsible for guiding $42.5 billion in investments from 2009-to 2019), will be updated to set the focus areas for ADB’s investments through 2030 and is now accepting white papers, suggestions and comments. Active involvement and the support by US industry is being sought. They are seeking views, advice, and inputs on questions such as:
- Emerging technologies and innovations that may be game changers for energy access and climate goals - What cross sectoral issues (i.e., energy-water nexus) should be considered in new policy directions - Which needs and priorities of developing countries in Asia and the Pacific require additional support from the ADB
Everyone is welcome to provide inputs and suggestions on these strategies. Furthermore, we are here to support more U.S. companies in pursuing available export opportunities. Please contact Mark OGrady and Michael Mia in the U.S. Commercial Service’s Commercial Liaison Office in Manila for additional information or to help you promote policy recommendations for future ADB policies.
For our clients active in the solid waste and recycling industry, WasteExpo has moved its dates to June 28-30 2020 in Las Vegas, NV. We are pleased to announce that WasteExpo 2021 is a certified show through the U.S. Department of Commerce's Trade Event Partnership Program (TEPP). This means that our global network of professionals will be supporting U.S. exhibitors before, during, and after the show by providing market intelligence and expertise as well as recruiting delegations of international buyers to facilitate B2B connections with U.S. exporters. Click below to learn more about WasteExpo, and if you'd like to learn more about our planned support at the show, please contact Ryan.Russell@trade.gov or Hector.Rodriguez@trade.gov.
