It's always free, easy to use, accurate and secure. Get started now - and find out if IRS Direct File is the right option for you to prepare and file your 2024 taxes. You can log in to Direct File to start your return and complete it anytime - using the step-by-step Direct File Checklist - before the April filing deadline. 2. Expanded Presidents Day weekend hours for IRS Direct File customer support Many people prepare their taxes during the three-day Presidents Day weekend. You can live chat with IRS Direct File customer support on Presidents Day weekend on Saturday, Sunday and Monday. Presidents Day weekend hours for Feb 15, 16 and 17: 11 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. ET. Weekly hours resume Tuesday, Feb 18 to Friday, Feb 21: 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. ET. Get help with technical support or basic tax law questions in English and Spanish. 3. What's new for the 2025 Filing Season Direct File is an option if you lived and worked in a participating state for all of 2024.
