New! Be Prepared for Winter Weather
Are you ready for the winter weather? Be better prepared and have emergency supplies in your car. The Farmer's Almanac predicts that most of the U.S. will be colder than normal this winter. Dealing with frigid temperatures, freezing rain, icy roads, and snow drifts may all be part of our future. Consider keeping your vehicle gassed up (full) and perhaps add a few of these items:
- Flares, reflective triangle, reflective vest
- Replace the batteries in your flashlight
- Ice scraper
- Mini- shovel
- Extra set of heavy clothes
- a couple of blankets
- Cat litter or sand for better tire traction
- Download the FEMA app and NOAA weather app on your phone to keep up with information
If you get stuck in bad weather, follow these suggestions to stay safe:
- Know the symptoms of cold stress
- A reddening skin, tingling, pain, swelling, leg cramps, numbness, and blisters
- Dress appropriately
- Wear at least three layers of loose-fitting clothing, insulated gloves, and boots, and cover your head
- Monitor your physical condition and that of the people with you
- Stay dry and pack extra clothes; moisture can increase heat loss from the body
- Take frequent breaks in warm, dry areas
- Drink warm liquids

New! OHRM Employee Break Rooms
There are two upcoming Employee Break Room sessions:
WorkLife4You (Dec. 13 at 2 p.m. Eastern)
During this session, the hosts will provide information about WorkLife4You, an additional benefit of the Employee Assistance Program; identify your POCs; highlight a Worklife4You service that many employees are unaware of; and demonstrate the WorkLife4You website.
Work Schedules at GSA: Balancing Work and Family (Dec. 20 at 2 p.m. Eastern)
GSA has numerous work schedule options available to help balance work and family needs.
During this session, the hosts will discuss the basic principles of work schedules available at GSA. While many of us still work a "standard" schedule (i.e., 5 days, each of 8 hours), there are five different variations of "flexible" schedules and three different options of "compressed" schedules that can be chosen instead, with supervisory approval. This brief session will provide an overview of the important aspects of these three general categories of work schedules and will also include a demonstration of how to use the HR Links system (i.e., PeopleSoft ERP) to enter time, create a base schedule, and request leave or premium pay (such as overtime).
The session recordings, slides decks and Q&As will be available on GSA Central for later viewing. If you need reasonable accommodation to participate in these sessions, please reach out to your servicing reasonable accommodations coordinator.
