A Friendly Reminder About the Gift Rules this Holiday Season

Dear GSA:

The holiday season is upon us and, in preparation, we’d like to remind you of the rules relating to gifts from outside sources (including contractor personnel) and gifts between employees. Whether you’re on the giving or receiving end of a gift, please remember to observe the government’s ethics rules. Please note, the same ethics rules covering GSA employees in government office spaces continue to apply when you are doing your job remotely.

I encourage you to take a few moments to review the Ethics Law Division’s Summary of the Gift Rules. And, even if the gift rules or the one of the exceptions allow you to accept a particular gift, it is never inappropriate and frequently prudent to decline an otherwise permissible gift if acceptance would cause a reasonable person to question your integrity or impartiality.

If you have any questions, please contact the Ethics Law Division at ethics@gsa.gov or your Regional Counsel. OGC is here to help you work through any issues that might arise.

Have a wonderful holiday season!

Best,
Arpit
