OCED released a new funding opportunity for up to $50 million to help the U.S. develop more reliable, resilient, and cost-effective energy systems to better support our rapidly changing electric grid and the growth of electric vehicles (EV), energy storage, and the electrification of buildings and industry. By scaling distributed energy systems, we can more effectively deliver and use clean, reliable power for more communities, reducing electric losses along transmission and distribution lines, and increasing grid resiliency. Concept Papers are due November 16, 2023, by 5 p.m., ET. Learn more and apply here.
OCED issued a Request for Proposal (RFP) for an independent, not-for-profit U.S. entity to de-risk clean hydrogen through demand certainty to support the Regional Clean Hydrogen Hubs (H2Hubs) program. This initiative seeks to ensure that both producers and end users in the H2Hubs have the market certainty they need during the early years of production to unlock private investment and realize the full potential of clean hydrogen. The RFP is informed by the Request for Information and Notice of Intent that OCED released in July 2023. Learn more about the input received from the RFI in this video recording. Deadline to apply is October 26, 2023. Learn more and apply here.
DOE released two new Pathways to Commercial Liftoff reports on Industrial Decarbonization, which details growing momentum for deployment of industrial decarbonization solutions, and Virtual Power Plants (VPPs), which highlights the nation's need for scalable and repeatable VPP models. Since launching in March 2023, the Pathways to Commercial Liftoff reports provide the private sector and industry partners with a resource on how technologies can reach full scale deployment. Read the new Liftoff Reports.
OCED issued Pre-Application decisions to applicants of the $50 million grant funding opportunity for the Energy Improvements in Rural or Remote Areas (ERA) program for small community-driven projects. As a direct response to feedback from rural and remote communities, OCED simplified the application process, removed the cost-share requirement, offered technical assistance, and reduced the financial reporting requirements to deliver for rural America and eliminate barriers preventing access to federal funding. Learn more about the ERA Grant Funding Pre-Application decisions here.
OCED, in partnership with DOE Office of Technology Transitions (OTT), selected two projects from the Collaborative Alignment for Critical Technology Industries (CACTI) Lab Call. The projects selected will establish lab-led industry and stakeholder working groups to collaboratively identify industry-wide adoption challenges and implement recommendations and best practices for resolving them.
