The USDA National Organic Program (NOP) oversees the dynamic, growing organic industry. This small federal program has a big impact on farmers, businesses and consumers, enforcing the organic standards to continually strengthen trust in the USDA organic seal. 

We are recruiting a Materials Specialist to join our Standards Division and serve as a subject matter expert in substances allowed or prohibited in organic production and handling. The selected candidate will apply this specialized expertise to support:

• Complaint investigations;
• Evaluation of lab sampling and testing methods;
• Interpretation of lab results;
• Certifier materials-related issues, questions and decisions; and
• NOP training and policy development.

This job is advertised as an Agricultural Marketing Specialist at the GS-12 level and is open to qualified members of the public. The Materials Specialist can be based anywhere in the continental U.S., with less than 10% travel required for meetings and conferences.
