September Is Kinship Care Month!
During Kinship Care Month, we shine a spotlight on the remarkable influence of kinship care on families and their communities. This longstanding practice, prominent in diverse racial and ethnic families and communities, nurtures strong familial bonds, safeguards cultural heritage, preserves family connections, and reduces the trauma of separation.
By recognizing the value of family connections and supporting a kin-first culture, we can advance an equitable and just child and family well-being system that supports the needs of children, families, and communities to promote improved outcomes. This month, we reaffirm our commitment to kin-first culture as a philosophy—believing in families and preventing family separation.
Here are four impactful ways to honor and celebrate Kinship Care Month!
