EYC Special Newsletter - Early Years Supplement Grant – Autumn and Spring 2023/2024 terms

Further to our Early Years and Childcare Special Newsletter dated 7 July 2023, we confirm that the Early Years Supplementary Grant (ESYG) will be passed on to you, in full, via new Free Entitlement funding rates for Autumn 2023 and Spring 2024 as follows:

  • 2 year old base rate - £8.68 per hour - an increase of £2.64 (43.7%) from summer 2023.
  • 3 and 4 year old base rate - £5.51 per hour - an increase of £0.54 (10.9%) from summer 2023.
  • Early Years Pupil Premium - £0.66 per universal hour for eligible children - an increase of £0.04 (6.5%) from summer 2023.
  • Deprivation Supplement - £0.47 per universal hour for eligible children (unchanged). This will give a combined EYPP/deprivation rate increase to £1.13 (3.7%) per universal hour.
  • Disability Access Fund - £858.92 per year for eligible children - an increase of £30.92* (3.7%).

*proportionate to two terms’ increase (equivalent to £53 multiplied by seven twelfths).

The uplift in rates have been possible due to this new EYSG standalone top-up grant which is being passed on to you in full. Autumn term estimates are being paid as scheduled (week commencing 17 July 2023) at the current rates and the new rates will be applied as part of the Autumn term actuals (child-level data) payments.

If you are unsure of, and would like to understand, how the current funding rates have been calculated in West Sussex, please see the video shared in newsletter #270.

The EYSG will be subject to conditions of grant which the DfE expect to publish in September.
