Further steps to reduce congestion from roadworks
Since then, we've also postponed SGN's planned road closure for gas main replacement work on Lower Wokingham Road in Crowthorne.
There'll be some extra relief at the junction of Waterloo Road and William Heelas Way, as South East Water have removed temporary lights and postponed their pipe diversion work to move protected newts from the site.
SGN now has temporary lights on Finchampstead Road in Wokingham, near Tangley Drive, to investigate poor gas pressure, which finishes on 23 September. This isn't having much impact due to low traffic volumes on that stretch, but we're urging them to work extended hours so they finish sooner.
Shop big with lottery super draw prize
One lucky winner of this month’s Community Lottery super draw will walk away with a £1,000 Aldi gift card – or take the cash to spend their way.
Whether you use it to fill the fridge or treat yourself to something from the famous middle aisle, the choice is yours.
Get your ticket for the Wokingham Borough Community Lottery before 8pm on Saturday 27 September to be in with a chance of winning.
Tickets cost £1 a week, with at least 50p going to a local good cause of your choice.
You could also scoop the weekly jackpot of £25,000 if you match all six numbers in the draw.
Community centre to welcome disabilities day centre
The service is currently based at Westmead Day Centre, a short distance away off London Road, but the new centre in Queens Road is better suited to its needs.
It has ample activity space, a fully accessible kitchen with height-adjustable worktops and a Changing Places toilet with hoist facilities.
Westmead is in serious disrepair and would cost at least £250,000 to restore, which wouldn't be a sound investment.
We and Optalis, who run the service, have involved attendees in the process and taken their feedback on board before moving forward.
We'll run the Matthewsgreen site for now, with a view to eventually tendering for a long-term management partner.
An operator was lined up, as we announced in January, but now they aren’t in a position to take this on.
Decision pending on Spencers Wood school
A detailed planning application for a new primary school in Spencers Wood, to be funded by developer contributions, has just been approved.
The school, which already had outline consent as part of our wider vision for the new community at Shinfield, could be based off Fullbrook Avenue and Hyde End Lane.
However, although permission has been granted, we haven't yet decided whether we're going to build the school as this depends on local demand.
If it goes ahead, it will have a single form of entry and capacity for up to 210 pupils, plus 30 nursery places and provision for certain special educational needs.
It will have sports facilities, a hall, play areas and more. Wider community use of these facilities will be considered.
Should there be further need for school places in future, this would be dealt with by a separate, full planning application.
Final chance to comment on parking permits
You have until Sunday 28 September to have your say on our proposals to improve the borough’s resident parking permit scheme.
We’re interested in hearing your views if you live in an existing, or one of the proposed new, parking permit zones in Wokingham or Twyford.
