Work starts on museum's new high-tech hub
The building will span three football pitches, with a 25,000 sq m footprint. Construction should finish in 2027, with everything up and running by 2031.
The centre will house 28 million items including mammals, invertebrates, fossils and genetic material, with equipment including DNA labs and frozen storage.
It’ll be a hub for international research, where data can be shared globally to solve issues like climate change, food supply and pandemics.
It’ll aim to be carbon neutral, with measures to reduce energy and water use, plus features to attract insects, birds and bats.
Act now to keep your vote
It's time to respond to the annual canvass and check your electoral registration details to avoid losing your chance to vote.
All households have now been contacted by post or email about the annual canvass, and 93 percent of all properties have already responded.
Canvassers working for us will now follow up with households that have not yet responded, either by visiting in person or by telephone.
Those visiting in person will carry official ID and a copy of the form your household needs to complete. Telephone canvassers will give their name, explain their role and ask you to confirm some details about who is living at your property.
You can respond online using the unique security codes printed on the form you received earlier by email or post.
Supporting someone, not just helping - you're a carer
You might think “I’m just helping dad with his prescriptions,” or “I check in on my neighbour every day”, but if someone relies on you, you’re a carer. And carers deserve support.
In Wokingham Borough, more than 10,000 people are caring without realising it, according to the latest Census data.
With the majority missing out on free resources, advice and community help for doing so.
Whether it’s juggling work and care, managing stress or finding time for yourself, help is available.
You don’t need to register for benefits, just recognise your role and reach out. Caring is powerful, but it’s not something you have to do alone.
