 Road closure for roundabout work
There are also a number of wider improvements being made for pedestrians and cyclists, including new crossings and a shared footway and cycleway to replace the existing verge along the northern side.
This is the first in a series of closures at this junction, with this phase due to run until early September. Traffic will continue to flow in both directions on Finchampstead Road, but there may be short periods when temporary traffic lights are needed.
Residents and businesses will have access at all times and pedestrian access will remain with some footpath diversions. It is a 24/7 closure, with no overnight lifting of restrictions. We will continue to monitor the area to make sure the official diversion routes are being used.
Bus discount for youngsters this summer
We're funding a discount to let children and young people take the bus for less during the school holidays.
Anyone aged five to 18 will be able to buy a £1 single or £2 return ticket at any stop in Wokingham Borough, regardless of journey length, on any date in August.
Earlier this year, we spoke to young people and were told that bus travel can be too expensive, which stops them getting out and doing things.
Please note that young people won't be able to change buses using this offer, nor buy discounted tickets from bus stops that aren't in the borough.
Put old school uniform to good use
If you’ve got clean, good-quality uniforms your children have outgrown (school logos are welcome), you can drop them off at the re3 Recycling Centres at Longshot Lane in Bracknell or Island Road in Reading. Just look out for the clearly marked wheelie bins.
Your donated uniforms will either be given free to families who need them or sold at low cost through the First Days Children’s Charity shop. You’ll find the shop at 3 The Courtyard, Wokingham, RG40 2AZ, right next to Denmark Street Car Park. It’s open Tuesdays 11am to 1pm and Thursdays 10am to 1pm and 3pm to 6pm.
Even a small donation can make a big difference.

Vital funding for charities and community groups
Many of us need help with things as we get older. Some of us have a disability and need help with things right now. And many of us provide care for people in these groups.
We’re planning for the future and looking at health and wellbeing services provided across the borough by charities and community groups. The current funding they receive from us is up for renewal in April 2027.
We want to hear your thoughts. Which services work well, in your experience? Which could be improved? Are there gaps in services in the borough? Do you have any other ideas we should take on board?
