Earlier bin collections due to hot weather
With high temperatures forecast for Monday 30 June and Tuesday 1 July, our bin crews will be starting their rounds an hour earlier than usual, from 5.30am.
This helps protect them from working during the hottest part of the day and keeps collections running smoothly in the heat.
How you can help:
- put your bins out the night before your collection day
- make sure containers are clearly visible and accessible by 5.30am
Thanks for doing your bit to support the crews during the warm weather.
Check your collection day and find out what goes where on our rubbish and recycling webpage.
New Turkish restaurant in Elms Field
Merhaba (welcome) to Opuz, a new, family-run Turkish restaurant and bar that was officially opened by borough Mayor Cllr Carol Jewell on Monday 23 June.
It joins the borough from Elms Walk in Wokingham as part of our award-winning regeneration in Wokingham Town.
Opuz is run by father and son duo Ibrahim and Gokhan, who already operate three successful restaurants in Aylesbury, Hemel Hempstead and Watford.
Serving up modern Turkish and Mediterranean-inspired dishes, Opuz offers relaxed, stylish dining throughout the day – with plenty of vegan and vegetarian options.
The grand opening was one to remember, with the ribbon cutting, live music, a DJ, belly dancers and a fire show creating an unforgettable atmosphere.
Opuz is now open for bookings. Find out more on their website.
 Listening to community's speeding concerns
We're taking action after lots of residents wrote to us explaining their concerns about speeding on part of Reading Road in Woodley.
We've agreed to repaint the white lines at the junctions with Howth Drive and Wroxham Road and install new warning signs on the approach.
We'll also be painting white road markings that warn people to slow down, and we'll put up equipment to gather up-to-date speed data.
Our most recent data for the area doesn't show any cause for concern, but we're very happy to look into it further and put people's minds at rest.
The works will be carried out later this summer, alongside others that are scheduled to take place in this part of the borough.
 First community lottery draw
It’s the first Wokingham Borough Community Lottery draw tomorrow (Saturday) and if you match all six numbers, you could win the £25,000 jackpot.

New free service expands contraceptive options
We’re supporting a new service that offers free access to long-term contraception methods without needing a GP referral.
The Long-Acting Reversible Contraception (LARC) clinics will be available in Wokingham town centre from next month onwards.
They can provide high-quality, safe and trusted methods like implants and intra-uterine devices (IUDs) through an easy self-referral system.
The sessions are run by Mid Hampshire Healthcare, a federation of GP practices and primary care networks.
Be careful in the heat this weekend and follow NHS hot weather advice to keep safe and well.
