First draw for local community lottery
So many local organisations have signed up as good causes already and when you play the lottery, you can choose who you want to support.
Tickets cost just £1 per week with at least 50p going to good causes. The rest is split between prizes and running costs.
We’re leading up to our first draw on Saturday 28 June and you could be in with a chance to win £25,000 if you match all six numbers.
If you’re interested in signing up as a good cause, you can apply on our website.
Local Authority of the Year results
We will find out today if we've won Local Authority of the Year by the organisers of a prestigious national award.
The MJ Awards recognise excellence in local government. They are run by the leading magazine dedicated to local authorities.
We are one of seven finalists, along with Bournemouth, Christchurch & Poole, Burnley, Lancaster, Stockton-on-Tees, Stockport, and Watford.
Our entry for the awards focussed on the development of the Communities Vision for the borough. Produced with local partners, its shares our commitment to look beyond the borough’s image as healthy and wealthy to focus on helping everybody to thrive.
Save on energy bills with Solar Together
Join more than 500 Wokingham Borough residents generating renewable energy through Solar Together Berkshire.
Solar Together Berkshire is back for its third year, offering residents and businesses the chance to purchase solar panels and battery storage at a competitive price through pre-vetted suppliers.
Solar Together is a tried and tested group buying scheme which helps you make the switch to generating your own renewable electricity, saving on energy bills and helping us work towards becoming a carbon neutral Wokingham Borough.
Register to join the buying group by Friday 8 August.
The more people who register, the more competitive the price. Once registered, you will receive a personal recommendation which will include the costs and specifications for a complete solar panel installation for your property.
There’s no obligation to continue – the choice is yours whether you wish to accept the recommendation.
For residents who have already invested in solar panels, retrofit battery storage is also available.
Have your say before the survey closes
Like many councils, we’re facing serious financial challenges. With rising costs and limited funding, we can’t continue delivering services in the same way.
We need to make difficult decisions and your views will help guide them.
Our budget survey is your chance to influence how we prioritise spending, what we protect, and where we could do things differently.
This is one of the most important consultations we’ll run this year.
At the end of the survey, you can also support our fairer funding campaign by adding your name and postcode. Wokingham Borough is one of the worst funded councils in the country, and we’re calling for change.
Making social homes more energy efficient
We’ve secured £750,000 in funding from the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero to make 100 social homes more energy efficient.
This is part of the Warm Homes Social Housing Fund which supports councils and housing providers to upgrade homes and improve energy performance.
We’re going to match-fund this to bring the total investment to £1.5 million during the next three years.
We’ll be using the money to bring the Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) ratings of these homes up to Band C with improvements such as wall and loft insulation.
These upgrades will help keep homes warmer in winter, reduce energy bills and lower carbon emissions.
If your home is eligible for these improvements, we’ll be in touch in the coming months to let you know more.
Be careful in the heat this weekend and follow NHS hot weather advice to keep safe and well.
