Final few days to take community safety survey
In light of recent unrest across the country, it's more important than ever we know how safe you feel in our communities.
There is just over a week left to take part in our annual community safety survey, seeking your views and experiences to help us focus our work for the next year.
It is your chance to tell us the type of issues that concern you and where they are taking place.
The survey closes on Tuesday (20 August) and by taking part you will automatically be entered into a draw to win £100.
Checking the electoral register is up to date
We will soon be contacting households across the borough to complete the annual canvass.
This helps us to keep the electoral register up to date, to find those at risk of losing their voice at future elections and to encourage people to register to vote.
It is a legal requirement for us to carry out the canvass each year and every household must ensure the information is correct. When you are contacted, read the information carefully and follow the steps set out.
This year’s annual canvass will take place from August to November. We will contact some residents by post, while others will be contacted by email.
The first batch of emails and paper forms will be sent out on Monday (19 August), with further correspondence planned for September. Door-to-door canvassers will then be visiting households that have not responded in November.
There’s only a few days left to have your say on our California Country Park improvements survey. It outlines options we’re looking at for improvements to the country park in Finchampstead. It closes on Sunday (18 August).
Centre doubles spaces ahead of new school year
Phase two of the Addington Early Years Centre for children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) is ready to welcome 16 new children for the new school year next month.
Phase one of the centre opened in Autumn 2023 to 17 children aged three to eight years with SEND. Based at the old Farley Hill Primary School site, the centre offers a small bespoke learning environment in spaces specifically designed to cater for their needs.
The phase two work includes are two new classrooms, a soft play room, splash and sand room and a second, larger playground.
A large team of dedicated staff are on hand to support the children with all their needs, helping them feel safe and settled, as well as providing whole family support from a family support worker.
Reminder - it’s your last chance to have your say in the SEND and Inclusion Strategy and All-Age Autism Strategy consultations, which close on Tuesday (20 August).
You've bin great as collections change
The first week of our new household waste collections is almost over and we're really pleased with how they've gone - thanks so much for your support!
Almost everyone put their waste out correctly, so please keep it up and keep recycling as much as you can - including food waste, which we're still collecting weekly.
Some homes put out rubbish and recycling at the same time, so remember - we're collecting rubbish one week and recycling the next. We won’t collect both.
You can check what to put out next week on our website. Put your waste out the night before, where your property meets the public road or pavement, to ensure it isn’t missed.
Some of you have your first rubbish collection next week, so make sure the bin lid's fully closed or it won’t be emptied. If you’re putting out recycling, you can get more free containers.
Finally, please label your bin with your house number (or even get creative and give it a full makeover!) so you’re sure which one is yours on collection day.
