Grab your tickets for Carnival’s inaugural concert
Our flagship new community space, the Carnival Hub in Wokingham, is set to show its cultural credentials as it hosts two fantastic concerts, in aid of the new Wade Dementia Day Care fund tomorrow (Saturday 19 November).
Music fans will be spoilt for choice with an afternoon of big band music from The Official Glenn Miller Orchestra UK (2.15pm start) and celebrated director Ray McVay.
It will be followed by an outstanding evening of entertainment from Ultimate Elton and the Rocket Band and The Police Academy (7.45pm start).
These are the first concerts to be held at the new hub, which opened in July and has a sports hall that can be easily adapted to make it a great space for cultural events.
Profits from the events will go to new Dementia Day Care fund at Wade Day Care Centre, Wokingham, which helps offer daytime dementia respite care facilities to support the local community.
Groundworks begin on new housing at Gorse Ride
We’ve broken ground on the affordable housing regeneration scheme at Gorse Ride in Finchampstead.
The event was attended by executive member for housing Cllr Stephen Conway, contractor Wates Residential and Chair of the Gorse Ride community steering group Steve Bowers.
Wates Residential will be on site for 36 weeks progressing with the enabling works which include trenching for new drainage and infrastructure for services, levelling the ground, digging and building foundations up to the damp proof course level. Works will also start to form the new roads.
The project will see 249 new modern homes built on site which includes 74 per cent of affordable homes to meet growing local demand. Four properties will be designed to accommodate the needs of people moving into the regenerated new homes for example wheelchair accessible with level access to shower facilities.
Fire service training exercise at Carnival car park
A fire crew from the Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue service will be carrying out a practice drill at our Carnival multi-storey car park in Wokingham town on Monday (21 November).
The exercise will run from 7.15pm and will only take place in part of the building, with the rest remaining open as usual. We're happy to help the fire service keep you safe as it rehearses dealing with fires in larger premises.
Helpers will be there on the night to steer people away from the practice areas - and don't be alarmed if you see "smoke" coming from the building, as this is all part of the drill!
Representatives from Thames Valley Police will also be there to support the exercise.

Locations confirmed for new electric vehicle charging
We’ve just announced the sites for dozens of new electric vehicle charging points which should encourage higher ownership when they are installed with Government funding next year.
They’ll be funded by a grant from the Office for Zero Emission Vehicles, in partnership with the Energy Saving Trust, for two points at each of 19 locations. This covers 60 per cent of the cost and the rest will be met by suppliers, who will be responsible for maintenance once a contract is agreed.
Twelve sites are residential streets, all five minutes’ walk from areas of high demand:
- William Heelas Way, Wokingham town, RG40 1RE
- Pigott Road, Wokingham town, RG41 1PY
- St Paul’s Gate, Wokingham town, RG41 2YP
- Station Road, Twyford, RG10 9NE
- Pitford Road, Woodley, RG5 4QF
- Bramshill Close, Arborfield, RG2 9PT
- Braybrooke Road, Wargrave, RG10 8DY

The rest will go in our Denmark Street, Rose Street and Cockpit Path car parks, all in Wokingham town, Polehampton Close (West) in Twyford, Station Road in Earley and Crockhamwell Road and Headley Road in Woodley. There’ll be dedicated EV bays so owners will always have access.
