After the success of the ‘Name the food waste vehicle’ competition, we're excited to announce another school competition to design the artwork for the sides of our new waste and recycling collection vehicles, which you'll see around West Berkshire this Autumn.
This is a fantastic opportunity for our students to contribute to our district's efforts in tackling the climate and ecological emergency, encouraging more people to do their bit and help people put more of their waste in its place.
The competition is open to all school-aged children, including home schooled, and we're eager to see the innovative and inspiring artwork our students will create. The designs should encourage residents to reduce waste and recycle more in West Berkshire.
There are two categories for the competition: Primary School age and Secondary School age. A winner will be chosen from each category, and the winning designs will be printed and installed on the side of one of our collection vehicles.
Each winning designer will also receive:
- A £25 book token.
- A family swim pass to one of West Berkshire Council's swimming pools (Courtesy of Everyone Active)
- The school will also receive a £50 book token.
The competition will close at midnight on 1 July. All schools within West Berkshire have been contacted about the competition however if you want more information, please email us at: recycle@westberks.gov.uk.
Veolia’s Sustainability Fund is back this year and offering up to £1,000 worth of funding to help support people across West Berkshire to improve the environment!
Veolia’s Sustainability Fund will support inspirational ideas that aim to make a positive change towards their local communities. The purpose of the fund is to support non-profit organisations, community groups or individuals that help transform their local community through enhancing biodiversity, promoting sustainable waste behaviours, protecting or preserving resources and the environment, or using recycled, reused or reclaimed materials.
If you have an idea to help improve your local community, visit the Veolia website before 30 September to find out how you can bring your ideas to life.
We want your views on our proposal to reduce the speed limit on roads in Theale.
This consultation originated from three separate requests for speed limit changes in Theale (Meadow Way, Crown Lane and The Green) which were approved at the Speed Limit Review in July 2021. Since then, Theale has been identified as an ideal candidate to assess the speed limit through a whole village/area rather than just individual roads.
The process undertaken in Theale will be treated as a pilot scheme to potentially be implemented in other suitable villages/areas across West Berkshire over the coming years.
Let us know what you think by filling out the comment form by Thursday 6 June. If you have any questions about the consultation, please contact our Transport and Road Traffic team.
