Get ready for Visitor Levy: join a session in person or online
There's just one month to go until accommodation providers in Cardiff must start accounting for Visitor Levy. From 28 September, the levy applies to new bookings, and to any extra nights or visitors added to existing bookings, for stays from 1 April 2027 onwards.
Cardiff Council and the Welsh Revenue Authority (WRA) are hosting free sessions in September to help visitor accommodation providers get ready for Visitor Levy.

We Were at the Eisteddfod!
We had a stand at this year's Eisteddfod Genedlaethol in Pembrokeshire, marking 850 years since the first Eisteddfod. It was our second year on the Maes and our biggest presence yet.
A big diolch to everyone who visited the WRA stand during the week. It was great speaking to so many people through Welsh, sharing information about our services and hearing your views.
Free tax event in Cardiff
We’re hosting a free tax forum for solicitors, conveyancers, and their teams.
The event takes place in Cardiff on Tuesday 22 September. We will cover Land Transaction Tax topics including suitable for use, transfer of equity and common errors in higher rates transactions.

From learning to doing, our Visitor Levy user research journey
We’re developing the service for visitor accommodation providers to file and pay Visitor Levy.
Ahead of it going live, our user research team has been speaking directly with accommodation providers to understand their needs and shape a service that works for them. User Researcher Sarah shares what she's learnt so far, and why simplicity has become the guiding principle behind the service design.
Out and About in Cardiff: Visitor Levy Leaflet Drop
Manon and Claire from the WRA joined Cardiff Council to deliver leaflets to local businesses and raise awareness of the upcoming Visitor Levy.
We spoke directly with visitor accommodation providers to understand their experiences and answer their questions about the levy. Listening to businesses helps us provide the information and support they need to get ready.

Landfill Disposals Tax Statistics: April to June 2026
Our latest Landfill Disposals Tax statistics are out, covering April to June 2026.
The tax due for the quarter was £6.9 million — 28% lower than the same time last year, and the lowest April to June figure we've seen in five years. The main reason for the drop was a fall in the amount of standard rate waste sent to landfill.
"In April to June, the Landfill Disposals Tax due was £6.9 million. The tax due is 28% lower than the same period a year earlier and the lowest figure seen for the April to June quarter in the last 5 years. A fall in the weight of standard rate disposals this quarter from a year earlier was largely responsible for the fall in tax due."
